Villa La Bacchante is situated just east of the centre of Rasteau in the direction of Roaix. 8 km west of Vaison-la-Romaine via the D975 and 22 km east of Orange (Autoroute A7), facing the Ouvèze valley, Rasteau (680 inhabitants) is a village of Upper Vaucluse wine-growers, perched 200 metres above sea level on a mound between plains and forests. The houses spread out at the foot of a beautiful 12th century Romanesque church, and the ruins of a 12th century château overlook the village.
You can't miss the huge shady square, right in the heart of the village. This is where the locals meet up, find out what's going on and have a good gossip. Around the square are a few shops, the café, the village school, the mairie, the post office and even a tourist office. You will also find in Rasteau a magnificent wine co-operative and a vine cultivation museum. Villa La Bacchante is neighbouring Domaine des Girasols who are happy to host you in their tasting room. Vaison-la-Romaine is just 5 mins. away to the east and this little town of 6000 inhabitants is the pounding heart of the region and provides a wealth of restaurants and shops, cultural events and historical places to visit.
- Hiking and biking: starting at the villa many tracks in between the vineyards and the forests.
- Horseback riding (10 min).
- Vaison-la-Romaine (5 min) - Chateau, roman amphitheater and village, Provencal market, brocante, restaurants and shops. One day provencal cooking course in private home.
- Séguret (5 mins) - one of the official "most beautiful villages in France", typical Provençal atmosphere and medieval character.
- Mont Ventoux (20-30 min) - cycling, hiking, skiing.
- Caves des Grand Crus du Cotes du Rhone (0-30 min). Wine tasting starts at the neighbours (Domaine des Girasols)! Upon request we organize wine tours in the region.
- Avignon (30 mins) - medieval city, numerous festivals, Chateau des Papes. Golf.

My wife, 4 children, dog and myself stayed here for 2 weeks at the start of summer 2023. The house is really nice with plenty of character. In particular, the outside space is fantastic. The pictures on the web-site can't do justice to just how good the views are. Looking across the vines in the morning to the Dentelles from the terrace with a coffee and croissant was such a pleasure. The pool was a big thing for us with the kids and didn't disappoint. It was at a perfect temperature and was a good size. There is also a good balance of shade and sunny locations around the pool. This was our first time in Provence so limited scope of comparison but we certainly thought the location was great. There is so much to see and do within an hours drive from beautiful villages to gorge walks. There is actually very good walking straight from the house on the tracks through the vineyards which the dog and I very much enjoyed. I'm also a keen cyclist and there are loads of great rides from here - from the bucket-list climb of Mont Ventoux to easier pedals through the vines and villages. Finally, for those staying with a dog, I'd recommend the vet in Vaison la Romaine Clinique vétérinaire Saint-Quenin.Guest rating:
We like this house so much this was our second stay (two years running!). The house is great, lots of space, the pool is great, really good size and warm as well. Everything is there that you need, its quiet as well with only one neighbour who you rarely see. So if your looking for peace and quiet, great views, great accommodation and pool this house is perfect. Local area has nice restaurants / markets / places to visit. Butcher and Bakery in Roaix (about 10 mins drive away) are great as well. One note for anyone travelling with small children, if your arriving in the evening, I would get some essential supplies (milk, bread etc..) in on the way to the house, as the local shops (next village down) tend to shut about 7pm much earlier than we are used to in the UK (caught us out on 1st visit!). Would highly recommend

We spent 2 weeks in this superb villa, it's situation is excellent, an easy drive after leaving the autoroute at Orange. The surrounding countryside has something for everyone, our group aged from 6 to 70. Cycling, walking, historical visits all possible very close to the villa. We lunched in pretty hilltop villages close by, my favourite Villedieu. We visited Roman remains, walked in the vineyards, cycled between the nearby villages, one brave soul even cycled up the nearby Mont Ventoux. Most of all we relaxed and enjoyed all the wonderful things the villa offered, the pool with it's lovely terrace and amazing views, apéros under the trees in the garden area which lasted longer as the holiday went on. Lunches and evening meals on the veranda, bbqs with meat from the excellent butcher in Roaix and wine from the producer just next door. The villa was everything we expected and more. It is very well equipped, sharp knives and lots of wine glasses, a must on holiday! A lovely welcome from Paul who was unobtrusive but there to help if necessary, a fountain of knowledge of the local area. Thank you Paul & Miriam for a wonderful holiday.

Our stay at La Bacchante was lovely. Really nice house, great pool in a lovely location within the vineyards around Rasteau. Rasteau is a quiet village but the Friday night Pizza in the square is delightful as are the walks around the villa. Further afield there are plenty of adventures to be found. My family took part in cycling, paragliding, kayaking, walking through the streams of a Gorge and a visit to the nearest beech. Then,of course, there is wine tasting whenever wanted and lovely villages to explore. If you like peace or adventure or both you will enjoy. Thank you Paul for your hospitality. Tony Dove & family

We spent a beautiful week at Villa La Bacchante in early May and were absolutely wowed by the property, the view, the location – pretty much everything! The house itself is lovely (exposed beams in the living room were an especially striking feature), tastefully appointed and very comfortable. We made extensive use of the well-tooled kitchen, enjoyed many meals on the covered veranda and relaxed on the lawn and in the pool. The living room with fireplace was very cozy on evenings when it was a bit too chilly for stargazing from the veranda. A brisk walk or a short jog across the vineyards into the village of Rasteau to pick up croissants and baguettes from the boulangerie became a delightful morning ritual and we enjoyed the easy access.

We lingered a month at Villa La Bacchante celebrating our 40th anniversary with a rotating group of adult family and friends. The best memories are the simplest. The early morning walks up to the boulangerie in Rasteau for croissants and baguettes. The friendliness of the butcher (one of the best we've ever run across) and the grocer in nearby Roaix (always warmly bemused, our French is not so good). The great produce at the weekly market in Vaison la Romaine that led to a new tradition: Rata-tuesday! As it was September, there was a never-ending harvest of figs and walnuts in the yard that led to a parade of fresh fig confiture, candied walnuts and fig tarts. September is the vendage, and despite being the busiest time of year, the neighbors at Domaine des Girasols , Paul and Marie Joyet, welcomed us for a formal tour arranged and conducted by our host, as well as informally getting us to "pitch in " with the work! Finally, a word about our hosts and new friends, Paul and Miriam Kluijtmans. There is seldom so much love, pride and care taken to be sure a home stays a home for all who are welcomed there. Be ready for their attention to detail and remember how much better this amazing and beautiful place is for it.

This was our second time at the villa and we had great fun.
It has a magnificent location with wonderful views and the villa is very comfortable with a good-sized swimming pool.
Guest rating:
The place is beautiful, you can't imagine the peace and the view we had while enjoying our breakfast of fresh goods of Provence from the terrace. Those lovely sunrises and sunsets we enjoyed from the garden or by the pool - rejuvenating experience. The house is well equipped, very clean and homely - it is much nicer than on the Internet. You can feel that it was furnished and decorated with care and love. The environment is suitable for gourmets, sports-lovers, the surroundings for historical monument fans, provincial market experts, wine tasters and people in romantic mood.

We had a wonderful week in Villa La Bacchante. The villa was lovely, clean and fully equipped with everything that we needed, but the best thing was the views. The villa is located on a hill overlooking beautiful vineyards, with Mont Ventoux in the background. It was lovely to spend the evenings sitting out drinking rose, watching the sun go down. The pool was great - and properly gated - very important considering there were four young children staying in the villa.
The surrounding area was beautiful, and we had a fun evening at the Rasteau wine festival. We all felt like we would very much like to return next year, staying in the villa and continue to explore the truly beautiful area.
Guest rating:
It is a very nice house with a typical French touch. It is very well equipped and is lovely situated on a hill overlooking vineyards and the mountains in the background. The pool is great and we had every meal outside on a veranda. The children really liked the house.
