Pretty Self-Catering gite apartment in beautiful Tarn-et-Garonne
'La Ville' is situated on a hillside facing the small village of Fauroux, which is between the bastide village of Lauzerte and the larger town of Valence d'Agen.
It offers the visitor total peace and quiet - a real escape from the hustle and bustle of modern living.
La Ville was originally a tiny hamlet, and so there are a cluster of buildings to be enjoyed. Part of the huge grange has been converted into a mixed games room and the old bread oven is still intact and working!
The owners, Chris and Moira are professional musicians who have established a lovely music facility at La Ville alongside the gites. If you enjoy listening to, or indeed making music, activities to suit different tastes can be happily organised. You can even book a few lessons if you want to brush-up on your piano, voice, brass or composition skills - these being particular specialisms!
Each holiday rental however enjoys privacy by not being overlooked, (so you don't have to join in!) and with their own private well-equipped outdoor living spaces.
The property and 12 x 6 metre pool (floodlit for evening swims!), are surrounded by 2 acres of grounds, which are alive with colour for most of the year. There is a parc, (small field) planted with fruit trees, woodland on three sides, a very productive potager, (kitchen garden) badminton court, and grassed areas which serve as an extension to the pool terrace. There is also an amazingly deep well (made totally safe), which is floodlit - yet another rather special feature of La Ville.
A beautifully appointed Pétanque court has been created, so guests can enjoy playing the traditional French game of boules - yet another activity to help your holiday along!
There are 360 degree views from the hilltop, which are stunning throughout all seasons, breathtaking sunrises and sunsets being a particular feature; worth getting up for with a cup of coffee, and worth relaxing with a glass of wine at the end of the day!
This beautiful apartment offers the visitor a unique holiday home. Created from an original 'Cave' (combination cool storage) and la place du cochon (the room of the pig!), there is a large double bedroom with vaulted ceiling, a lovely shower room (with another vaulted ceiling) and an open-plan living/dining room including a kitchen area. With the benefit of central heating this is a perfect place for cosy winter breaks. During the long hot summers however, the thickness of the walls means that you can stay beautifully cool whenever you want!
Outside there is a small private terrace and garden area with bbq for al fresco dining, and beautiful sunsets to enjoy. There are even your own fresh herbs to pick to add that extra something to your cooking!
La Ville offers total peace and quiet, perfect for a relaxing holiday. If, however, laying by the pool or reading a good book in the shade of a tree is not quite enough, we offer a range of activities to enhance your stay.
There is a games room, with table tennis, snooker/pool table, a dart board and some gym equipment to help keep you fit!
If being indoors doesn't appeal, then you can enjoy badminton or boules in the garden.
La Ville is set outside of a small village, and is surrounded by rolling farmland, with glorious 360 degree views, with the Pyrenees visible when weather conditions are right!
There is something for everyone in the general area, whether you enjoy historical sites, bastide villages, festivals, local markets, sporting activities, fine dining (with Chateau de l'Hoste and a 2 * Michelin restaurant within easy reach) or lively evenings out.
As La Ville is at the end of its own country lane, there is no traffic, other than that of guests! Locally, roads are a pleasure to drive on, with it being perfectly possible not to see another vehicle for many kilometres.
Summers are full of local fetes, where evenings can be spent over a communal meal in a town square for a very reasonable cost, whilst enjoying a wide range of high quality entertainment. For those who enjoy classical music, a number of festivals are within easy reach, where international artists are featured alongside local professionals.
The region has a fabulously sunny climate, with long hot summers and a mild spring and autumn.
Markets are a big part of French rural living, and this area is no exception, with a local market somewhere close by, on each day of the week. Shopping, whether it be for local produce or souvenirs, becomes a pleasurable activity, with a stop for coffee and pattiserie in an outdoor cafe essential - just watch the world go by!
Wildlife is in abundance, with sightings of deer, wild boar, red squirrels, and huge numbers of birds of prey being the norm - a bird watchers paradise!
Walking is a pleasure, with beautiful scenery in every direction, rare sightings of cars, and everything from gentle strolls to backpack expeditions possible from the property. Golf courses are within easy reach, and for the more adventurous there is horse riding, white-water canoeing and even a local parachute school and hot-air ballooning. Cycling is a further option, with varying terrains to enjoy; from steep hill climbs to gentle flat rides along canal paths.
There is a good choice of restaurants within a few miles radius, to suit all budgets. Everything from a local pizzeria to gourmet eating at Chateau de L'Hoste.

What a gem of a find! We enjoyed such a wonderful, peaceful week at La Cave. A lovely, spacious bedroom - clean well equipped kitchen - and lovely large pool. The hosts were so friendly and helpful. Everything was just perfect - We hope to come back!Guest rating:
We had a lovely week at La Cave. We found the Gite to be perfect. It has been restored to a high standard and well equipped. The bedroom in particular was large and airy. The outside seating area was private. The shared pool was perfect with lots of seating in sun and shade. We loved the area and made little trips to local villages with Lauzerte being a favourite from a previous trip. The owners were helpful without being obtrusive. Likewise the other guests in related property were also friendly but had their own property. The two kittens were a joy and as cat lovers a happy addition to the holiday. So we would highly recommend La Cave for peaceful week in an idyllic rural setting.Guest rating:
It was quite by chance that we ended our year of traveling with a month at La Cave – and how lucky we were! We’ve had a truly lovely time here and can’t wait to return in October for a week.
La Ville is so beautiful, pretty scenery, starry night skies, games and the pool - You really have it all. We’ve loved the daily markets, next doors friendly dog and Moira’s fabulous meals. Also, all of the home-grown veg and home-made goodies. It has been a highlight of our trip and we both leave with heavy hearts……until next time…….Much love and many thanks for being such brilliant and generous hosts.Guest rating:
We stayed in La Cave for one week and had a very enjoyable, relaxing time.
This area in France is so beautiful and we loved visiting all the local villages and towns. We strongly recommend St. Cirq Lapopie and the Sunday market in Moncuq.
Chris and Moira are perfect hosts, they always find time to have a chat and to help where they can. One can see clearly that they are extremely happy here which makes it a pleasant place to stay.
The homemade meal and bread were very tasty, we even ordered an extra loaf to take to our next destination!
We wish them all the luck in the world with their business and musical careers and I will never forget the baby owl sitting right outside our front door one evening, it was magic!Guest rating:
Thank you Moira and Chris for a fantastic holiday. We stayed in La Cave and love how you have restored it while still keeping the feel of a wine cellar. We slept very well here!
Many thanks for the welcome parcel of homemade bread, jams and fruit and the delicious first night dinner using all your veg from the garden! We visited the local towns of Lauzerte, Moissac, Valence and Cahors – Cahors being our favourite with the beautiful Pont Valentre.
Best of all though was the lovely pool and games room where we spent several hours trying to beat each other at ping pong!
It has been a wonderful relaxing holiday and we are very sad to leave.Guest rating:
Thank you for a wonderful holiday! We had a fantastic time here, enjoying the hospitality, the beautiful countryside, and exploring the local towns and villages. Some of our favourites were; Moissac, Sarlat, Lauzerte and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (the latter a suggestion of Chris’ and definitely worth a visit!) Moira and Chris were wonderful, informative hosts with a wealth of local knowledge and advice, which is exactly what we needed! The welcoming touches to La Cave were also a delightful surprise- the homemade bread, jam and the flowers. Thank you again for an incredibly relaxing holiday (so relaxing that we slept through an apocalyptic thunderstorm!) – We absolutely loved it here.

We have so enjoyed staying in La Cave which is full of quirky charm. Two wonderfully relaxing weeks at La Ville. Chris and Moira have been perfect hosts, welcoming, informative and so musical! They have worked extremely hard to turn La Ville into such a special retreat.

A lovely gite, beautifully furnished with lots of attention to detail. Friendly, hospitable hosts, very kind and helpful. Gorgeous part of France and beautiful location. And the scent of the lavender wafting in through the windows on those warm summer nights. And I mustn't forget to mention the one and only Buddy, who put his special stamp on the ambiance.

We had a wonderful holiday in La Cave. It was very clean, had an extremely well equipped kitchen and felt very cosy. The sunny terrace was such a wonderful place to sit out on - totally private with lovely flower beds. The weather was rather mixed during our stay so we didn't use the pool much, although it was a good size and there were plenty of loungers plus tables and chairs to use if you wanted. The gite was on top of a hillside in an extremely pretty part of France - there was much to explore and we spent several days cycling on the nearby canal paths. All in all we thoroughly recommend it and hope to visit again before too long. Chris and Moira were very welcoming and the 3 course meal that Moira provided on our first night was delicious, as were her home-made loaves which you could order.

We have had a fantastic holiday. Moira and Chris made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble.
Our accommodation, 'La Cave' was great, we had everything we wanted and it was lovely and cool inside when the temperature outside was over 35'. The location was ideal too, out in the country, but central for visiting many special villages, markets, cities and other attractions. Very highly recommended.

For our first proper holiday in 8 years we would have been hard pressed to find somewhere quieter, more welcoming and relaxing! Have had a lovely two weeks in La Cave. We would highly recommend the home cooked meals from Moira. Ours on arrival was extremely welcome after the long drive from the UK and was very tasty and full of home grown produce. Thank you to Chris and Moira for making La Ville what it is and for being so friendly and welcoming. Neither of us want to go back home (or to work!). Good luck with the future plans and hopefully see you next year.

Wow!! we have had such a fantastic visit. La Cave is a brilliant place to stay; very cosy and romantic. All your hard work was definitely worth it.
We will miss you lots, but are already looking forward to next years visit.
Guest rating:
We had a fantastic short break in 'La Cave' - the bedroom was amazing. Moira and Chris were extremely accommodating considering we booked the night before our arrival! Our stay was exactly what we needed, peace and quiet, relaxing by the pool. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.
