Luxury 18th Century Granite Stone Barn suitable for adults or couples only.
A home away from your home, and a great deal more than a usual standard accommodation.
The Barn is perfectly situated to explore the many areas of interest in Normandy, including nearby Calvados and Brittany.
We are close enough to visit Normandy Landing beaches as day trips.
There is a golf course close by in Vire, which is within easy reach.
Our home in France is located within Basse Normandy, in the area of Manche, which is an area of great natural beauty with spectacular scenery.
Normandy is famous for its wonderful cider, green pastures, stone houses and delicious cheeses. Calvados is famous for its Apple Cider and Apple Brandy.There is always a wide variety of locally grown and made produce to sample.
The history of Normandy is extensive and ranges from William the Conqueror to the invasions on the D-Day beaches.
The Barn is ideally located to explore all the beauty and history of many areas, including Mont St Michel, the famous French monastery, Caen Cathedral, the Bayeux Tapestry, Mortain Cascades (waterfalls) and historic, scenic Avranche.
We are only 2hr 20 mins from Paris by train, which can be visited as a day trip.
There is a National Park close by for exploring and with spectacular views and miles of walking and hiking trails.
The Barn is a very comfortable, luxuriously appointed, fully furnished, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathroom granite stone renovation. Ideally suited to one or two couples for both long and short term rental.
Accommodation comprises of:
Ground Floor
- A large open plan lounge and dining room with a terrific wood burning stove. The barn has under-floor heating throughout, so suitable for both summer and mid-winter stays. We have French and English satellite TV and the house has free Wi-Fi Broadband Internet.
- The kitchen is fully equipped for the most particular chefs and there is also a large refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.
- A separate downstairs WC
First Floor
- Two ensuite bedrooms, both with Queen Size beds. One has an ensuite with shower and the other has an ensuite with an enormous bath and a separate shower, both have heated towel rails.
- A study nook upstairs on the landing, with a small desk for study or internet use.
- A mezzanine floor level, giving a feeling of openess.
There are some exposed granite walls throughout the Barn.
Outside
A large garden surrounds the house, with two patio areas at the front and back of the house to enjoy morning or evening sunshine with a view of surrounding countryside.
Well appointed luxury accommodation. New modern furniture with a French twist.
Underfloor heating makes the barn also suitable for mid winter stays.
The barn is spacious, light and airy with comfortable, new modern eclectic furniture.
The kitchen is fully equipped for the most aspiring chefs and has lots of bench space, including a double sink to make food preparation a breeze.
Sorry, no pets and the property is unsuitable for children.

The barn is located in a small rural hamlet close to Sourdeval in Normandy, about 300 km west of Paris
Ideally situated to explore Normandy and regions of Normandy, Calvados and Brittany.
Experience French country living in a comfortable, stylish modern Barn renovation.
The nearest big town with full services is Sourdeval , which is a few minutes north. Although a relatively small town, it is known a 'Village of Flowers' in summertime and has all services. Here you can find most things you require, including a patisserie and bread shops, a butcher, several bars, newsagents, post office, ATM terminals with a Credit Agricole bank, pizza shop, small cafes, and 2 supermarkets and garages.
There is a Farmers Market on Tuesdays in town with a wide variety of produce and local fare and other markets every day of the week in nearby towns of St Hilaire , Dol de Bretagne and Mortain .
Choice of dining from fine authentic French Cuisine at the Moulin du Auberge (watermill), through to modern eateries in town centers to traditional fare at local restaurants.
Mortain is located south about 3 km, and has spectacular views over the countryside, including 2 famous waterfalls. (Petite and Grande Cascades)
Public swimming pool available in Mortain .
There is a full golf course in Vire .
We do our grocery shopping at the supermarket on the northern outskirts of Mortain, which is about 3kms south of us and easily accessible. Vire has a much larger shopping center, and has a great historic monument at it center.
Most shops are closed from 12 noon to 2pm, although the larger supermarkets are an exception. The little supermarket in Sourdeval is open on Sunday mornings.

How to get to Normandy Apple Barn
There is a wide choice of transport from both UK and Paris as the property is easily accessible.
The local airport at Dinard has daily flights from London Stansted.
The UK sea ferries sail to Caen, Le Havre and St Malo several times a day, which take cars and foot passengers.
The closest rail station is Vire, just 15 km away which has a direct train line to Paris (approx. 2 hrs 20 mins hours on TVG).
There is a car rental company in Vire, near the railway station.

Just to let you know we spent a lovely week at the barn, which was clearly not just a gite for rental. We couldn’t have wished for more, it was beautifully decorated and equipped and very comfortable.

A wonderful place to stay
We recently spent a week at Normandy Barn. What a wonderful place to stay! The gite felt like a home from home, welcoming, very comfortable and beautifully presented, everything we could have wanted. Suzanne was very generous and kept us well informed. We could not have picked a better base from which to explore this lovely area of France. We definitely hope to visit again!Guest rating:

The price above is based on up to 2 people sharing the property.
Security deposit of 200 GBP is required for all bookings. This is fully refund providing there is no damage to the property and it is left in a clean and tidy condition, with rubbish correctly sorted and recycled.
Any additional couple or single, will incur charge of 80 GBP to cover linen and cleaning costs for the 2nd bedroom.
Check in is 4 pm. Check out is 10 am. Outside peak times, we MAY be able to vary these times, please ask us.
Additional daily or weekly housekeeping services are available if required.
Extra linen changes and weekly general cleaning are charged additionally on an extended stay of 2 weeks or more.
Heating supplement for October to April of 75 GBP per week.
