Cours du Fleuve is set in the countryside of the tiny village of Calès, overlooking the banks of the Dordogne River. Across the river lies Trémolat, a typical small French village which caters for the needs of both the French and the English, although it has still retained the French charm. One can amble around the village enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the local ancien St Nicholas church, or simply watch the world go by at the local bar.
Close by is the famous "Cingle de Tremolat", a bend in the river offering magnificent panoramic views of the Dordogne valley. The medieval town of Lalinde (14 km), with its little lake ideal for picnics and lively Thursday market is also worth a visit. Sarlat (44 km) bustling narrow streets and medieval buildings steeped in culture and history, is a must visit for all. The region boasts the world renowned Bergerac appellation wine area which covers 12,700 hectares. Wine has been produced in the region for well over 400 years. Wine enthusiasts will find similar grapes to those found in the Bordeaux region including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec reds; Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadet whites. Many vineyards welcome visitors and offer tastings. The formal ‘route de vin’ maps out a plan of the vineyards in the area. The Dordogne is the supplier of almost half of France’s fine produce including truffles, cèpes and foie gras.
The nearest shopping towns are the beautiful Le Bugue on the Vézère River to the east, and Lalinde on the Dordogne to the west. The river Vézère joins the Dordogne at the lovely village of Limeuil just a few minutes drive from Trémolat. Enclosed between the rivers Vézère and Dordogne (the "golden triangle") is a veritable treasure of prehistoric sites, beautiful caves from, for example, Lascaux with cave paintings, to the Gouffre de Proumeyssac with stalactites in a forty metre high underground cavern.
There is so much in the local area it is almost impossible to know where to start. All age groups are catered for. There are prehistoric sites, troglodyte villages, bastide towns such as Monpazier, Belvès and Villereal. Périgueux and Bergerac are an easy drive.
There are châteaux for visiting and wine tasting. Monbazillac is worth a visit. During the summer, countless local fêtes, travelling shows, night markets and dancing in the square to bands with accordions!

We have recently enjoyed a fantastic 11 nights at 'The Cottage' and it surpassed our expectations. The lovely owners Anne and Paul have thought of everything to ensure a perfect stay. The location just outside Tremolat is also perfect and is within easy reach of some beautiful villages and the more popular places along the Dordogne river. Comfy beds, a well equipped kitchen and lounge area and outside seating areas both front and rear to make the most of the morning and evening sun and beautiful sunsets. The pool area is exceptional and inviting and even has the benefit of external wifi whilst you lounge by the poolside. A lovely seating area is also situated in the garden for those who like to sink into a comfy chair with a good book. Sheer bliss. A return visit is definitely on the agenda. There is other accommodation available on site and whilst three of the cottages are adjoining, they have subtle screening to ensure privacy if you so wish.Guest rating:
July/ August 2018 My husband and I spent 2 relaxing weeks in The Cottage at Cours du Fleuve. We were welcomed by Anne the owner on our arrival as they live on site which was great if you required anything or to just ask anything about the area etc. Anne and her husband Paul were a really nice couple and very sociable and were interested in what we did but without being intrusive. The cottage was immaculate and had everything you could possible want and I’m sure if it didn’t you would only have to ask and it would be sorted within reason. A welcome pack was a really nice touch of butter, wine, milk, water, orange juice & Jam with a lovely welcome card too. We had exceptional weather 37/38 degrees for our 2 weeks so the beautiful safe gated pool was a real life saver. Air conditioning was a must for our time there too and this is offered at an extra charge but for our 2 weeks we only used £10 worth so not all the world. We met some lovely people while staying there and although the gites are next door to each other it’s up to you whether you socialise or not. I could go on and on but just read the blurb on each gite and view the pictures and what you read and see is exactly what you get. The Shepherd familyGuest rating:
My husband and I, along with our 2 daughters (aged 6&8) recently spent a fabulous 2 weeks at Cours du Fleuve. The cottage was beautifully presented and perfect for us, offering everything we needed. The owner, Anne, was very welcoming and not far away if we needed anything. We especially enjoyed having one terrace to enjoy breakfast in the morning sunshine and another terrace to enjoy dinner in the evening sunshine. We saw some stunning sunsets and enjoyed excellent star gazing after dark. It is a very peaceful spot, with stunning views. We really felt away from it all. There is so much to do close by, from swimming and kayaking in the beautiful Dordogne river to the many stunning historical sites and excellent markets. It was also lovely just to relax at Cours du Fleuve around the beautiful pool. We came home feeling so relaxed and very much hope to return another year.Guest rating:
