Cours du Fleuve is set in the countryside of the tiny village of Calès, overlooking the banks of the Dordogne River. Across the river lies Trémolat, a typical small French village which caters for the needs of both the French and the English, although it has still retained the French charm. One can amble around the village enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the local ancien St Nicholas church, or simply watch the world go by at the local bar.
Close by is the famous "Cingle de Tremolat", a bend in the river offering magnificent panoramic views of the Dordogne valley. The medieval town of Lalinde (14 km), with its little lake ideal for picnics and lively Thursday market is also worth a visit. Sarlat (44 km) bustling narrow streets and medieval buildings steeped in culture and history, is a must visit for all. The region boasts the world renowned Bergerac appellation wine area which covers 12,700 hectares. Wine has been produced in the region for well over 400 years. Wine enthusiasts will find similar grapes to those found in the Bordeaux region including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec reds; Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadet whites. Many vineyards welcome visitors and offer tastings. The formal ‘route de vin’ maps out a plan of the vineyards in the area. The Dordogne is the supplier of almost half of France’s fine produce including truffles, cèpes and foie gras.
The nearest shopping towns are the beautiful Le Bugue on the Vézère River to the east, and Lalinde on the Dordogne to the west. The river Vézère joins the Dordogne at the lovely village of Limeuil just a few minutes drive from Trémolat. Enclosed between the rivers Vézère and Dordogne (the "golden triangle") is a veritable treasure of prehistoric sites, beautiful caves from, for example, Lascaux with cave paintings, to the Gouffre de Proumeyssac with stalactites in a forty metre high underground cavern.
There is so much in the local area it is almost impossible to know where to start. All age groups are catered for. There are prehistoric sites, troglodyte villages, bastide towns such as Monpazier, Belvès and Villereal. Périgueux and Bergerac are an easy drive.
There are châteaux for visiting and wine tasting. Monbazillac is worth a visit. During the summer, countless local fêtes, travelling shows, night markets and dancing in the square to bands with accordions!

We have not long returned from the most wonderful week at Cours du Fleuve. I feel like we struck gold finding this little gem of a property in the heart of the Dordogne, I almost don’t want to share our secret! We stayed in the Tabac, which accommodated 6 of us comfortably. The property itself is immaculate, it provides everything you need for a self catered holiday and more. My kids loved the pool and the selection of garden games and I loved the rear patio with stunning views. It was really lovely having other holiday makers around the pool, just enough buzz for the kids but still peaceful and relaxing. We had three bbq’s during our stay, all equipment was provided - even the beautiful scenery of rolling hills and the sunset was laid on for us ! You definitely need a car to get around, but there is so much to see and do within a half hour drive. We recommend kayaking, the inflatable water park in Le Bugue and the Marche Nocturn in Beaumont. The lovely hosts, Anne and Paul make this place extra special, nothing was too much trouble and they both took genuine interest in us and the children. I highly recommend this place. Thank you for a perfect stay.Guest rating:
We found these properties by a lucky chance on the internet! In 2016 we stayed in the Farmhouse and had a wonderful relaxing holiday in an area of France we had not visited before - this area of the Dordogne is one of France's best kept secrets. We liked it so much we booked there and then to go back in 2017 but to the Tabac as it slept 6. Anne and Paul had taken over the property in July but could not have been more hospitable and helpful having just moved in themselves. We had another wonderful holiday - the Tabac where the bedrooms are all en-suite gave us plenty of room, the accommodation is of a very high standard with nice touches like the welcome pack and towels and bedding provided. The pool is fabulous and well maintained as are the gardens. They are all very well-equipped with everything you need. We enjoyed many 'al fresco' dinners and even got to see the 'Milky Way' one night! This is a quiet spot for those looking for peace and tranquillity. Although the Marche Nocturne in Tremolat – across the river from Cales - (on at least 3 times in the summer on a Tuesday) - is a wonderful evening to enjoy the food stalls and then dancing in the square. Make sure you go kayaking too - we recommend Le Buisson to Sors!Guest rating:
