This bright, spacious, three bedroom, two bathroom gite, with private heated pool and courtyard garden, has been converted from an old winegrower's house. The accommodation is on one level, with the three bedrooms (one ensuite) and walk-in shower room all leading off from the open plan living/dining/kitchen area.
- The main entrance is accessed from the courtyard garden and pool area. A small gate (providing additional pool security) and two steps lead into
- The dining area where there's a traditional "baguette" dining table with seating for six, a cast-iron banquette and wall tapestry.
- The living area has an exposed stone wall and ample seating, including a chaise longue and a window seat running the length of three sliding windows, which open on to the tile surround of the pool - your own in-house pool bar! Satellite TV provides UK Freeview channels, plus there's a DVD player, CD player with iPod dock, and free Wi-Fi connectivity.
- The walk-in shower room with basin and WC, leads off the far end of the living area.
- The modern kitchen has an oak-topped peninsular, dividing it from the dining area. A free-standing dresser provides extra storage (games, DVDs, books) for the well-equipped kitchen, which has a 5-ring range cooker (electric oven and gas hob), fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, and all the culinary equipment you will need for your stay. In the adjoining ante-room are laundry facilities, with a washing machine, iron, and ironing board.
The three double bedrooms lead off from the living/dining area.
- The double master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with a corner bath and overhead shower fixture, sink, and WC.
- Bedroom 2 can be made up for double (king) or twin occupancy.
- Bedroom 3 provides twin beds, which are low and ideal for young children. All bedrooms are furnished to a high standard with appropriate storage units.
Outside
The courtyard garden has a BBQ and dining area, sun loungers and two further shady seating areas. Just beyond the front door, there is a small undercover seating area adjoining the shallow end of the pool (1.2 metres deep) and an outside shower. The pool (7.3 x 4m), which is heated and has a motion-sensitive alarm, extends to the far wall of the property, to a maximum depth of 2 metres. The courtyard garden has a planted border, with herbs and potted plants, and an area for sun loungers. There's an extendable dining table with seating for six (+), BBQ and a small table with chairs under the shade of a mulberry tree. A couple of steps lead to the outer courtyard, where there is ample parking for two cars, shaded by the magnificent almond tree, which gives the gite its name.
The friendly English owners live on site - Jill, Richard and their spaniel, Zac - but they will ensure that your privacy is guaranteed. However, they will be on hand, if required, to answer any questions, give you advice and recommendations about local activities and attractions, make reservations for you, and help to make your stay as relaxing as possible.
Neffiès is a pretty medieval "circulade" village surrounded by vineyards, nestled between mountains and the Mediterranean Sea and is the perfect place for exploring the sights and tastes of the Languedoc region. Most amenities are on your doorstep, with a boulangerie, an épicerie selling local produce, children's play area, plus vans that visit weekly selling seafood, cheese and charcuterie direct from the producers. Best of all, there are two excellent dining venues within minutes walk from the gite: leave your car behind and relax into village life. There are great views from the family-friendly bistro L'Escampette, plus the restaurant Le Very'table offers more fine dining but is equally as friendly and great value.
The nearest village of Roujan (5 minutes), provides a large Super U supermarket, petrol stations, ATMs, pharmacy and Medical Centre, plus a Tourist Office. A short drive away is the historic market town of Pézenas, with it's atmospheric old quarter, artisan studios, shops, and restaurants. There's an eclectic market here on Saturday mornings, and during July and August, the Friday evening "Estivales" wine tastings along the main thoroughfare coincide with the shops staying open until midnight.
The Gorges d'Hèric, 30 minutes away, offer great walks and bathing in crystal clear waters and waterfalls. Venturing a little further, towards the Gorges d'Herault, is the charming village of St Guilhem le Desert - voted one of the most beautiful villages in France - and the nearby medieval bridge, the Pont du Diable: both designated World Heritage sites. Visit caves and grottoes with spectacular son-et-Lumiere displays; enjoy kayaking and canoeing on the River Orb, swimming in the freshwater Lake Salagou, or a more leisurely cycle, or boat hire, along the Canal du Midi.
Taking to the coast, apart from the lovely, unspoiled stretches of sandy beaches, with their safe swimming and seasonal pop-up beach bars, there are also picturesque fishing ports. One such, Marseillan, is the home of the vermouth Noilly Pratt - take a tour of the factory and sample their imaginative cocktails. The coastal lagoons (Etangs), produce world-renowned oysters and mussels, which supply the local restaurants with the finest produce in the area - the towns of Mèze, Bouzigues and Grezan are a must for seafood lovers. Don't miss the local sport of water jousting. This competitive, exuberant spectacle can be seen throughout the summer, culminating in the final at Sète (the Venice of the Languedoc on account of the number of canals) at the end of August during their fête de la St Louis.
Meander through the streets of the vibrant city of Montpellier, with its shady squares and exclusive boutiques. Take in a wine tasting, accompanied by local produce, at one of the many nearby wine domains. Or simply relax by your pool, contemplating life in the "real" South of France.

Guest rating:
We stayed for a week with two young children and had a lovely time.
Gill & Richard are considerate and discrete hosts and very good at accommodating our specific needs and making suitable recommendations for activities and restaurants.
Neffies is a very pretty village in a beautiful location ideal for site-seeing and wine-tasting. Lovely beaches are within easy reach and the short drive to Montpelier airport made for easy transfers.
The gite is in excellent condition with a kitchen kitted out by someone who likes to cook, along with basics like oil, seasoning and tin foil etc, it makes life very easy.
The courtyard garden is a lovely spot to sunbathe or enjoy a meal with a glass of wine whilst watching the swifts overhead.
Guest rating:
Our group of four adults stayed in this Gite for four nights on the start of our way through France and into Italy for a family wedding. What a great start to our holiday. It is such a relaxing and peaceful place, with a great pool and courtyard. The Gite is spacious and well equipped with everything you might need.
Jill and Richard are the perfect owners who helped us with many things including directions to places, interpreting, and directing us to the best wine shops!
Thank Jill and Richard, we will return soon.
Guest rating:
We have just had a fantastic fortnight in this villa. It is well equipped with everything you could need and more! The very generous welcome pack (including wine, fruit, and essentials such as coffee, milk, bread etc) was most appreciated. Jill and Richard were fantastic hosts and their recommendations for places to eat, sights to see, and local events were all 'spot on' and enabled us to make the most of our visit. The village of Neffies is beautiful with two good restaurants, a bakery, and a small supermarket. We made full use of the lovely pool and barbecue and found the outside area perfect for both the sun lovers in our party and those of us who prefer a shady spot to read a book or chill out with a beer or wine. We were all sorry to leave after our fortnight and will be recommending the villa to family and friends.
Guest rating:
We've stayed at a number of properties and this one is up there with the best. I endorse the comments of the other review: the gite is of a large size with plenty of room indoors and out. Bedrooms are a good size. And the place was spotlessly clean. Having the private pool right by the door is fantastic - it's cold when you get in but worth it! Provision of pool towels and pool toys is a great idea by Jill and Richard.
The courtyard is not huge but comfortable for 4-6 sunbathers (remember the sun doesn't get as high in Sept and probably May, so there will be shade). And definitely big enough for BBQ, meals outside etc.
Jill and Richard are great hosts. They live on site but respect your privacy and space, but are available for advice or help if you need it. There is lots of tourist info in the gite, along with a very full and informative folder, from when the rubbish is collected to where to visit for local restaurants in a variety of villages.
The kitchen is very well equipped and you could easily prepare and cook all your meals here. Jill and Richard provided a good basic larder which included wine (basic?), water, juice, fruit, cheese, milk, bread plus tea/coffee, and oil, condiments etc. But eat out... L'Escampette and L'Very Table in the village are fantastic but book in advance. Jill booked our first-night table for us and took a load of worry off!
I completely agree with all the comments on the site about the location to towns, tourist sites etc. It is a perfect base to explore the area. 90 mins to Carcassonne, 45 mins to Montpelier, 30 mins to the beach and not that far from mountains, vineyards etc.
Guest rating:
A lovely gite in an excellent area. We wanted a gite in a village location central for sightseeing and we were not disappointed. The gite was clean and very well equipped. The pool, courtyard and eating area was a nice place to relax with friends and we made good use of the BBQ. The owners Jill and Richard lived on site and clearly wanted their guests to get the most out of their holiday. Jill had put together a comprehensive tourist information folder, including details about the village, local attractions, and events. We loved the village restaurant Le Very'table and had fantastic meals there at reasonable cost. We have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone wanting good accommodation in this beautiful area of France!
Guest rating:
We had a wonderful holiday in this delightful gite.
The property is immaculately maintained and presented. On arrival, we were greeted with crisp sheets, white fluffy towels, wine in the fridge and plenty of basic supplies (bread, cheese, milk, butter). What welcome! The décor and general ambiance are lovely.
Everything we could possibly need was there: from pool towels and toys, to cool boxes, beach umbrellas, books, games, DVDs and a great BBQ.
Gill and Richard are very helpful but discreet hosts. Your privacy is guaranteed, but equally help and advice was there if you wanted it.
Our older children adored having their own pool for the week and it was hard to keep them out of it. It was on the cool side for our 2-year-old, but he was happy splashing and playing in our rubber dinghy.
Neffies is a pretty French village with a bakery, shop a bar and great restaurant. It was lovely to be able to walk to places. The area is beautiful; surrounded by vineyards, 40 minutes from great beaches, 10 minutes to swimming lake in the hills and 30 minutes from national park/mountain scenery. So much to do we only scratched the surface, for example, we didn't manage any 'sightseeing' of which there are lots!
I would highly recommend this property and suspect we will be tempted to go again as we think it will be hard to beat!
