La Barauderie provides space, style and comfort in a private and exclusive Loire Valley domaine. The buildings are built around two private, secure and spacious interconnected courtyards one of which has our spectacular dining terrace looking out over the garden and the other has an extensive patio with sun loungers around the large heated salt water swimming pool.
La Bausse
- The large living dining and kitchen space has a double height cathedral ceiling with ample space and light.
- The house has two King size bedrooms with en suite shower facilities. One of these rooms is on the ground floor with easy access.
- The third bedroom has an ensuite bath/shower room, and can be set up as a twin double beds, four single beds or a combination to suit your group.
La Grange
- La Grange has a large living room and a fully equipped kitchen dining room.
- Upstairs are three bedrooms, two king-size rooms, one with an en-suite shower room and the other with a Jack and Jill bathroom linking to the third bedroom with bunk beds, ideal for the little ones.
Outside space
- We have 7 acres of gardens, meadows, a small lake, orchards, a potager and meadows to explore.
- Our large salt water heated swimming pool is open during daylight hours throughout the summer and there are sun loungers around the patio by the pool for serious relaxation.
- There is also a large dining terrace with spectacular views across our valley.
- Aside the pool and the space to run around there is a games room with table tennis and table football. In the garden there is even more space to roam as well as a trampoline and play area with swings and a slide.
We can also provide a full range of equipment for younger children including cots and high chairs. Each of the houses has a bath.
Dining
We know its a self catering holiday but that doesn't mean that you have to do all the cooking. Here at La Barauderie we're much more focused on the holiday bit and making sure that you can enjoy the domaine to the full. La Barauderie is fully licenced as a restaurant available exclusively to you during your stay. Throughout your stay you can enjoy amazing and unique meals.
When it comes to our food, our aim from the start has been to only offer meals where they can be every bit as good as our accommodation and worthy of the amazing setting.
Our food is defined by two obsessions which make them stand out from the crowd. The first is the produce that we source from as close to us as as possible and serve in season. This includes food from our own potager and from local farmers and markets, the Loire valley is the garden of France. The second is fire, we use traditional cooking techniques using fire and wood as much as possible using hardwoods from the domaine and the local area to bring a real taste of the outdoors to our creations.
La Barauderie is an ancient hamlet built over two water sources dating to before the earliest records in France. As well as beautiful holiday homes, the hamlet retains all the character from these origins including the rudimentary mill, pigonnier, bread oven, wine press and terrain. Better still, all these features are yours to visit, explore and enjoy providing unique spaces and framing spectacular views wherever you are in the domaine.
We are situated in the natural park of Anjou-Touraine along with some of the best vineyards in France, surrounded by the famous Chateaux of the Loire and the homes of kings, philosophers and writers. La Barauderie is close to everything the wonderful Loire valley has to offer yet provides an exclusive and private escape a world away from the bustle and crowds.
The Chateaux
The famous ones open to the public fall into the categories of ancient fortresses (Chinon, Loches, Grand Pressigny) and grand renaissance houses (Villandry, Amboise, Langeais, Azay le Rideau). We can provide you information and directions. Near to us are Chateaudu Rivau (excellent for children) and Azay le Rideau (on an island, beautiful furnished). Surprisingly, there are a lots of smaller châteaux in private hands. You will see them from the road as you tootle along the lanes.
Richelieu
This beautiful small town is 15 minutes away, one of the first ever planned towns, designed by its famous cardinal whose château was next door. Now gone apart from a single corner tower, its park remains a beautiful place to visit. There is a very atmospheric market every Friday and music events throughout the summer.
Other historic sites
Our favourite is the Abbaye de Fontevraud where King Henry 2nd of England is buried beside his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine and their son Richard the Lionheart. Eleanor was born nearby in Poitiers, in a building now attached to the law court. Think also of visiting the home of Rabelais near Chinon.
Chinon
This is a stunning small town dominated by its ancient fortress. It was the favourite of Henry 2nd of England and is where he (and later his son Richard the Lionheart) died. It is where Joan of Arc was first introduced to the French King before her battle against the English at Orléans. It has a summer medieval festival, boating on the river and good food.
Within easy reach are some of the best attractions in France for children, namely Futuroscope and the zoos of Beauval (in the top 5 in the world) and Doue la Fontaine
