Provencale Hilltop Farmhouse with views, swimming pool and air conditioning - Newly Refurbished Pool 2023
This beautiful old Provencale stone farmhouse (completely detached) is set just outside the walls of the medieval hilltop village of Salazac, affording a combination of ambience and privacy with a wonderful light breeze throughout the year. It is set amongst Cote du Rhone vineyards and enjoys panoramic views to the North.
The house itself is fully modernised and decorated simply in the local style to a high order. The private swimming pool is 10m x 5m with Roman steps at the end. There are garden loungers and a large table for outdoor meals, which can be put under the bower for shade when the sun gets too much! The maintenance and cleaning of the pool (to the south of the house) is assumed by Romieux. Piscines. The land to the north and to the east of the house is also part of the property .

There is so much to do in the area; the Mediterranean coast is just over one hour drive (to either side on the Rhone towards Marseilles or Montpellier. On your way, you would pass through the Camargue National Park, famous for its pink flamingo's and white horses. The Cevennes National Park to the west of the house is also well worth a visit for beautiful scenery. Avignon, Nimes, Orange, the Pont du Gard are all within 40 minutes by car. The breathtaking underground caverns at Orgnac are only a few kilometres from the recently discovered Chauvet caves. Other activities which draw people to this area are fishing, walking, horseriding.
On different days of the week you can visit the excellent bustling Provence markets with their wonderful local produce (olives, goats cheese, fruits, asparagus, seafood) and of course go wine tasting with Chateaneuf-du-Pape only half an hour away).
The village itself is very picturesque. It no longer has any shops or restaurants but a local butcher and local baker visit the square two or three times a week. The nearest café is in St. Julien de Peyrolas (about 5 min drive down the hill towards Pont Saint Esprit). A further 5 minutes drive takes you to the village of St. Martin d' Ardeche with boulangeries, cafes, shops and restaurants.
This village is extremely popular with canoeists as it is located at the bottom end of the famous "Descente de l'Ardeche" day trip. So, within 10 minutes to the north you are in the spectacular Ardeche gorges and within 10 minutes to the south you are in the beautiful but very different Ceze valley. There are two large market towns within 15 minutes drive with full local facilities: Pont St. Esprit and Bagnols sur Ceze.

How to get to Hilltop farmhouse
The area easily accessible from three international airports: Lyon ( 2.5 hours' drive), Marseilles and Montpelier (both just over one hour) and from the TGV (high speed train connecting with the Eurostar from London and Ashford) at Avignon, Montpelier or Valence.
Air France holidays and British Airways Holidays offer attractive fly-drive deals in particular for 4 people.
Car hire is also often cheaper when organised from England and the Company I have used the most frequently is Budget.
Motorail provides a service taking you and your car to Avignon from Calais
Otherwise, after crossing the Channel, the drive from Calais is approximately 8-9 hours (all motorway if you wish) and for those wishing to make a break in the journey, I can offer ideas for wonderful hotels in the fantastic Burgundy/Cote d'Or area (approximately 4 hours from the house).

Amazing place to stay in a beautiful area
The villa is a spacious property with everything you need. We loved the fact that it was away from neighbours, had a great pool and privacy. It got the sun all day and was really just a lovely relaxing place to stay.Guest rating:
Holiday with 8 adult family members. Plenty of space and comfy beds. There was a choice of bathrooms so no queue in the morning. Huge lounge/kitchen area with doors either end giving a welcome breeze in the unusually hot weather for June. Pool was large and very clean and was enjoyed by everyone. Garden was private, not overlooked and plenty of parking space. There were lots of villages and towns to explore as well as domains to sample and buy local wines.Lovely area and holiday enjoyed by all. Would go back back again.

Plenty of charm and the perfect place to relax.
This was the ideal location from which to explore the area. There are so many opportunities for day trips - read Jane's recommendations - and it's amazing to come "home" to your own space and relax around the pool.
We stayed here with our two daughters, ages 12 and 14, for six nights and there was plenty of room for everyone. The building itself is charming with lots of character and the kitchen is well-equipped. Note, you'll need to bring your own sundries, such as soap, toilet paper, laundry detergent etc.
It was hot and sunny during our stay and we enjoyed the pool and walks in the surrounding area. We ate al fresco every evening and bought wine from the local vineyards. It was a lovely week!Guest rating:
We have had 2 wonderful and thoroughly memorable stays at this delightful property in Salazac. The first stay was with our children and on another occasion with a group of friends. The house has loads of space, clean and very well furnished with everything we needed - plenty of bathrooms, well equipped kitchen, very comfortable bedrooms and lounge area. The pool was particularly lovely with a seating area outside where we had some wonderful lazy breakfasts and evening bbq's! It is in a very peaceful location and yet just a short drive gets you to shops, restaurants and the Ardeche gorge where we had a fantastic time river rafting! Jane gave us some really helpful recommendations for places to visit, good restaurants and the best place to pick up our morning croissants. We also did some lovely walks directly from the house which has the most wonderful views. This is a great place to stay whether with children who want activities and to explore the area, you certainly won't be short of things to do or just for a quiet break in an environment.Guest rating:
Beautiful house (and weather!) - despite Jane's great advice of many places to visit nearby/ things to do, my kids couldn't tear themselves away from the pool! The house was clean, well equipped and fit my family of 6 very comfortably. We hope to return next year!Guest rating:
We had a wonderful holiday at Salazar.. The house was well appointed and the pool was great. We very much enjoyed our dinners outside by candlelight and fantastic walks from the house with stunning views. There is plenty to do in the area and the Ardeche gorges are less than 10 minutes away. Canoeing down the Ardeche river is quite spectacular. We will definitely be booking another stay in the near future !Guest rating:
We have just returned from spending two weeks at this great property. The owner has carefully retained all the positive features of an old stone farmhouse but has combined them with the essentials of modern living. On arrival, the house was warm and clean. Little details, such as there being washing up liquid, tablets for the dishwasher and washing machine, sufficient toilet rolls, ice in the freezer, clean tea towels, wi-fi, all added up to make a very homely welcome to this lovely property. The beds are comfortable, as is the lounge furniture. Having visited over the Easter holidays, the evenings were chilly and it was lovely having the wood burning stove rather than having to use the electric heaters. The kitchen is well equipped and the knives are sharp!- plenty of cookware, crockery and glassware. A fantastic base for a relaxing holiday or to explore the area - there are lots of leaflets of places to visit and walks to try, both from the house and further afield.Guest rating:
