Outstanding House with Pool and Wonderful Views
Le Moulin is our home and we live here for almost 6 months of the year and so we have a vested interest in ensuring that it is very comfortable and well equipped!
We only let the house for a few weeks each year
The property has fantastic 360 degree panoramic views with the Pyrenees clearly visible in the distance. There are two former windmills, one of which has been converted to a private bedroom and bathroom. The remaining five bedrooms and four bathrooms are in the main house. There is a private heated swimming pool and a fantastic covered hangar (open barn) attached to the main house and overlooking the pool. Off the Hangar is a summer kitchen/dining room.
The Hangar is the focal point for Summer days providing a large shaded area for eating, drinking or relaxing or playing ping pong. It overlooks the heated swimming pool so you can choose to sit in the sun or shade without being separated from the action.
Above all the house is a family home with light and airy welcoming rooms furnished to the highest standards.

OUTSIDE
The property has fantastic 360 degree panoramic views with the Pyrenees clearly visible in the distance. There is a private heated swimming pool and a fantastic covered hangar (open barn) attached to the main house and overlooking the pool.
THE HANGAR AND SUMMER ROOM
The Hangar is a large barn, open on the North/South sides. The high roof combined with the open sides ensures that even on the hottest days the Hangar provides a cool shaded oasis . There are two large sofas and several other comfortable chairs and a large dining table that will seat 12 as well as a small table for young children. There is also a full size ping pong table.
The Hangar overlooks the heated swimming pool which is about 10 metres long with a good shallow end and Roman steps, ideal for young children. The pool is 'fenced off", although not sufficiently to be designated child-proof, but there is also an electric safety cover which complies with the stringent French laws. The pool is totally private and not overlooked. There are six loungers and plenty of other comfortable chairs between the pool and Hangar.
The Hangar is perfect for eating on hot summer days. Everyone is comfortably shaded and there is usually a gentle breeze blowing through. The large glass table will seat 12. There is also a small table for young children.
For the evenings the roof lighting provides good background light and there are plenty of candles.
On the far side of the Hangar is the Summer Room which has a Fridge, a drinks fridge, a dishwasher and sink and a full set of eating and drinking ware
For cooking there is a single electric hob and a choice of a large charcoal or a gas barbecue.
The Summer Room also has another large dining table which will seat twelve using the extension provided. It is a wonderful room for dinner in May and October when it can be a bit cold for dinner outside.
The grounds are extensive, with lots of places you can get away to private hammocks. There is a large trampoline, a challenging climbing frame, croquet, giant chess and ample room for kick abouts etc. For younger children there is a small Wendy House. For golfers there is a challenging pitch and putt onto an artificial green.
The grounds are very private, but the property is not isolated, with the village of Sales sur L'Hers only 4km away providing a small supermarket, a butcher, chemist, doctor, dentist and tobacconist.
FACILITIES
WiFi internet is available through the house and Hangar.
Bed linen, towels, sun beds, etc are included in the price, as is maintenance for the pool and gardens, and a maid who will clean weekly. Swimming towels are not provided
Le Moulin is situated in glorious open country with 360 degree views. To the south the Pyrenees are clearly visible and on a clear day present a magnificent backdrop.
The house and grounds are quiet, peaceful and very private. However the house is not isolated, the small hamlet of Sainte Camelle is at the bottom of the hill and the village of Salles sur l'Hers is a few minutes' drive. There are good local shops in Salles and the major shops and supermarkets in Castelnaudary are only 20 minutes away

Had the most fabulous two weeks. There were 7 of us including my grown up children and their partners. We all had great individual sleeping spaces / separate bathrooms. And plenty of socialising space. Lovely pool. The hanger - great social space for us all into the evening. Two kitchens - so practical. Stunning views. Location felt remote but so close to trips/sightseeing and amenities. We brought bikes which was excellent both for morning trips to the bakery and a jaunt along the canal du midi. Lombrives caves very highly recommend English speaking tour. Website booking very clear. Michelin Green Guide - great driving tour in Pyrenees- recommend Monsegur castle. And obviously Carcassone - great atmosphere in the evening. Highly recommend - do hope to return. As other guests have noted - Chris & Arabella fantastic remote hosts - good communication.Guest rating:
We had a wonderful family holiday at Le Moulin this August. We spanned three generations and the house was perfect for all ages. Children loved the table tennis, toys and beautiful pool. Their parents and grandparents escaped to the shade-covered hammocks and enjoyed the wonderful views and sunsets at dinner. There are two well-equipped kitchens, plenty of space, a wonderful sitting room and comfortable bedrooms. The views over the country side were spectacular and a very pretty nearby village supplied the breakfast croissants and bread. The house is ideal for families and Arabella has thought of everything to make it perfect rural retreat. Lots of great markets and day trips within easy reach. I couldn’t recommend Le Moulin more highly.

After a lovely holiday here in 2021, we had another fantastic family fortnight at Le Moulin in 2022. It was even better than the first time! The sun shone throughout - so the pool and the hangar got lots of use. The house was just as comfortable as we remembered (and the ceiling fans were put to good use this year), and we found plenty to do to keep ourselves entertained around and about - vineyard visiting, cycling, waterparks etc etc. Le Moulin is an amazing holiday house, in a beautiful location, and we have thoroughly enjoyed our (big) family holidays there. We hope to be back again!Guest rating:
Le Moulin was the perfect venue for 9 friends to spend an idyllic 2 weeks during a heatwave. Superb house with comfortable bedrooms and well equipped and furnished accommodation. The pool was wonderful and the views were stunning. The hanger was perfect to spend long lazy days and nights and there was space for everyone to take afternoon siestas and either be together or find peaceful time alone. Occupying a hill top position which felt remote and secluded we were actually never far from anywhere. Chris and Arabella were great remote hosts who made sure that we had everything we needed to make our stay just perfect We will returnGuest rating:
We stayed at Le Moulin in August 2021, having only booked it the week beforehand. Christopher and Arabella were so accommodating and flexible with our booking and readily available by email with information, contact details for local people on the ground and useful tips and reminders. The house itself is absolutely perfect for large groups, even though only the 4 of us stayed on this occasion. The bedrooms are all very comfortable with plenty of towels, hanging space and extras provided. The two kitchens provide everything you could possibly need to cook meals at home and the outdoor space is enough to keep even the most active children (and adults) entertained for hours on end. I think we played pretty much every game on offer - golf, croquet, boules - and spent countless hours in the pool, both during the day and at night. The setting is so beautiful with views all round the house and stunning sunsets. We visited Castelnaudary (home of the cassoulet), Carcassonne (extremely busy and touristy but still worth a visit), white water rafting at Foix, the underground river at Labouiche and the awesome Parc Aquaviva. Would definitely recommend this place to other families!Guest rating:
Le Moulin is a beautiful house, in a stunning location. The house is homely and very well appointed; the rooms are large and all are very comfortable; the pool, hangar and summer kitchen are outstanding; the grounds and garden are fantastic, and there is plenty to do, see and taste nearby. On top of all of this, Christopher and Arabella were amazingly helpful in the run up to and during our stay, going out of their to make us feel welcome and help us to enjoy the holiday. Having been frustrated by Covid in 2020, we shared a happy fortnight at Le Moulin with our extended family in 2021. It was well worth the wait! The house was perfect for us and there was something for all members of the party: the one year old twins had great fun on the climbing frame and in the play house, the older kids loved the pool, chess and table tennis, the parents enjoyed the hangar and the sun loungers, and the grandparents enjoyed the tranquility of the windmill bedroom! We all agreed that Le Moulin is the best holiday house that we have visited, and we have already begun to plan, and look forward to, our next visit! This really is a fantastic house to holiday in - we can't recommend it highly enough. Six stars!Guest rating:
We had a lovely stay at Le Moulin with our family of 8 adults. Particularly enjoyed the hangar space, pool, table tennis and croquet. A car is essential as it was a long way to travel to see the surrounding sites, but very tranquil, rural and restful. Really nice to find somewhere where we could all spread out and find peace and quiet and yet still all be together for meals and games, etc. Hosts very helpful and attentive. Mirepoix market and historic feel was our highlight, Carcassonne also an interesting day out. Thoroughly recommend for a French holiday!Guest rating:
We had a wonderful holiday here. We were a party of eight, the youngest being ten. There was plenty of room for everyone, and the house was extremely well equipped with everything that we would want or need. The views from the house and terraces are spectacular and the hangar area had a lovely breeze on the hottest days. The house is very well situated, an hour from both Toulouse and Carcassonne. All in all a great stay, with help when needed locally plus contact from the owners as a lovely courtesy.Guest rating:
Our family of 11, including grandparents, parents and children, enjoyed a wonderful week at Le Moulin. The excellent accommodation worked perfectly for us, giving everyone sufficient space. The hangar and its kitchen is undoubtedly a special feature and was used extensively, from family breakfasts, table tennis, yoga session, BBQs and mainly for relaxing during the hot part of the day, catching the lovely breeze, and during the cooler evenings. The pool was a great success, particularly for the children, and all the corners of the garden were sought out at some time, particularly hammocks, swing and swing hammocks, and the giant chess set and croquet. The area is beautiful and relatively quiet away from tourist spots. We enjoyed trips to Carcassonne, into the foothills of the Pyrenees, to Cathar castles, markets, Lac de la Ganguise for kayaks and dinghy sailing, and an excellent day cycling along the Canal du Midi. I would thoroughly recommend Le Moulin as a place to stay, particularly for family groups.Guest rating:
We stayed at Le Moulin for the third time this July and this alone should indicate how highly we think of it. It is a perfect house for a family holiday having everything that you could possibly want both inside and out (we were 10, aged from 22 months to nearly 70). The local area is wonderful offering interest to young and old alike. We went to the markets in Mirepoix and Revel and loved them both and the old Cite of Carcassonne is quite magnificent. We will return in a heartbeat if the opportunity arises. Questions to self: Why am I writing this when it means that others may prevent me from booking it in the future? Should I not have kept my feelings to myself? Too late!Guest rating:
We were a party of 11 people, ranging from young grand children to grandparents staying at Le Moulin. The house is set in the countryside with stunning views including the Pyrenees. The house itself was very large, from good sized bedrooms and bathrooms that were very well appointed giving everybody the space they needed. Outside we made full use of the swimming pool which was enjoyed by everybody and the Hanger was a great bonus, offering somewhere to get out of the sun and allowed us to eat altogether around the large dinning table. The children not only enjoyed the pool but also the trampoline and other facilities on offer. For the adults, the peace and tranquility meant it was truly relaxing at Le Moulin. We visited Castelnaudary (market day) and Lac de la Ganguise for picnic and pedalos. As recommended, a lunch at La Paradis de Pape in Mazeres is well worth the visit, the drive from Salles sur L'Hers offering some great views. All in all, we had a great week staying at Le Moulin which was made all the better by Christopher & Arabella making it easy to arrange booking and then following up with all the details required for our stay. All this and only 1 hour from Toulouse airport. Ideall!!Guest rating:
What a wonderful week we had at Les Moulins! We were two large families with young children holidaying together and the set up could not have been better. The children happily played in the pool and entertained themselves with table tennis and all the other games on hand whilst we could sit back and take in the incredible views from the hanger. The hanger really is a perfect space for large groups - so much so it was hard to tear ourselves away and explore the area! We did manage to visit Carcassonne however and also have a lovely lunch at the local restaurant in Salles-Sur-L'Hers as recommended by the owners. The owners were so helpful and friendly which made it easy to feel at home and relaxed in the property.I would definitely recommend Les Moulins and hope to stay there again one day!Guest rating:
We had a lovely fortnight at Le Moulin. We are two families who have holidayed together often, with our youngsters now in their twenties and only one teenager left! The young all enjoyed the different outdoor games, there was plenty to do at Le Moulin itself- and the football fans also enjoyed watching the start of the premiership season games on the telly! The house is very comfortable indeed and well set up with a welcoming, homely feel, the pool is superb, and the spacious Summer kitchen/dining room and outside area under the hangar are fabulous. We visited Cathar castles, a lovely medieval village/town (Mirepoix)and Carcassonne too, but also enjoyed relaxing at the nearby lake where you can get ice cream etc at the sailing club and rent pedalos/canoes. The house has wonderful views, and the nearby village is v friendly, with local shops, a restaurant and excellent takeaway pizzas. An ideal holiday base for families, especially suitable for mixed aged groups, perhaps. The owners made everything go smoothly for us and everything in the house was thoughtfully presented to help us feel at home and make the most of our stay. I would not hesitate to recommend this property.Guest rating:
What a fantastic property! The space, inside and out, is terrific and the 360 degree views are to die for (something that we took full advantage of on our first night, courtesy of a magnificent lightening storm). The lovely heated pool and the extra space provided by the hangar area gave us very few reasons to venture away from the property during our stay. As a family of 4, we found ourselves thoroughly spoilt with so much space and freedom, and a few times managed to lose one another amongst the grounds. The house was well equipped with everything that we could have wanted, and when needed, the owners were swift to respond to our questions. Thanks to its elevated position, the property provides total privacy but manages to combine this with an open and spacious feel and we look forward to returning there again in the future.Guest rating:
We have been spending holidays together for 10 years now and Le Moulin is probably the best accommodation in France we have enjoyed to date. Great facilities, well presented very clean and well looked after. The reality lived up to the description and we particularly loved the Hangar area by the pool which allowed outdoors indoors. The Hangar kitchen was excellent, although could probably do with a cooker, and evening meals in the Hangar were brilliant looking out at the surrounding countryside and occasionally the Pyrenees, when not obscured by cloud. Good shops in the local village Salles-sur-l'Hers and plenty to visit in the general area, including the Canal du Midi. We were 6 adults and 6 young people aged from 11 to 17 and would certainly recommend Le Moulin for the larger group, plenty of space and places to get away from the noise. Tiled patio between Hangar & house quite slippy when wet particularly if barefoot, take care.Guest rating:
My semi adult family of 5 (+ 1 boyfriend) stayed at Le Moulin in October and were extremely pleased with both the Le Moulin and it's location. Apparently October is usually warm, but we experienced glorious sunshine throughout our stay and used the pool every day. The setting of Le Moulin is high on a hill with the Pyrenees in sight, away from other houses and yet close enough to local shops to go and get fresh food for breakfast or other meals - a ½ hour journey. Restaurants are everywhere in France, so going out posed no problem. The house is big enough for everyone to have their space (we have 3 daughters, and they need their space…) and the garden naturally falls into the areas around the pool, or private spaces hidden away from the general hub-bub. We thoroughly recommend Le Moulin – it's clean, well equipped, beautifully located and the ideal place to stay all day, or to come back to and relax after visiting the “something for everyone” the whole area offers. We particularly liked the idea that we, the older lot, could relax and enjoy peace and quiet, whilst the younger team could play in the pool, or table tennis – or go out to the to the lager towns nearby and “hang out”.Guest rating:
Le Moulin provided an idyllic escape for our young family this summer and couldn't have been easier. It is a true home and the owners generously leave it exceptionally well equipped. We had planned to explore the area more but it's one of those places that it's hard to pull yourself away from! The 360 degree views are stunning, a super pool, sun loungers or comfy chairs at every corner and plenty to keep little ones and older ones occupied alike. The "Hangar" is ideal - providing a shady spot all day long to watch the pool and play table tennis or cards... sip local wines. Such a successful holiday that we have booked to go back next year! Thank you!Guest rating:
