Luxury Villas on Wine Estate with Large Pool
A jewel in the Languedoc, a tranquil oasis of superbly equipped villas furnished to the highest standards in the midst of vines, a short distance from the picturesque medieval town of Pezenas.
Domaine St. Ferreol lies in a private 35 acre estate with 2 acres of wooded park, ancient trees, a bamboo park, natural water gardens and ponds. The property is bordered by 1 km of riverbank with crystal clear natural pools which are excellent for fishing.
The large private marble finish heated swimming pool with Roman steps (13m x 6 m) enjoys a very sunny position, is set in approximately half an acre of lawned park and is bordered by an ancient high wall, wooded park and a small canal with views over the surrounding vineyards and the river. Here there is plenty of room to relax or play croquet, boules, badminton or volley ball.
For the children there is a large play area under a canopy of mature trees with swings, a slide, a climbing frame, sand pit, football, basketball, darts, table tennis and a 14ft trampoline. All these facilities are enclosed within the high ancient walls of the Chateau and is very safe for you and your family.
Built in a classical Roman quadrangle, this ancient property dates from the 11th Century. The Chateau has an impressive underground vaulted stone cave under the main house that holds the huge old oak barrels once used for aging wine as well as current wine being aged in smaller oak barrels. Under the Cave there is a Roman Well. There is also an ancient mill to the rear of the property that was once the source of power for the winery and was fed by water from the canal.
The estate gardens are filled with mature trees, flowers, shrubs and fruit trees. An ancient chapel and water mill nestle amongst the ancient plantains and there are many secluded areas dotted with benches for those who want a relaxing read away from it all. You are free to roam the estate and surrounding lands. The area is ideal for hikers or you may hire bicycles locally to discover the local charming villages or just walk through the surrounding vineyards and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
Wildlife is abundant in the parkland and owls have nested here for hundreds of years and are part of the Domaine's history so much so that stone statues of eagle owls can be found in the gardens. A total of 53 different bird species were seen in one June week!
An excellent base from which to explore the region, 20kms from the nearest Mediterrranean sandy beaches, 50 kms from historic Montpellier, 125kms to the medieval walled city of Carcassone and 300kms to Barcelona. There are plenty of fun activities for all the family to choose from including 5 Golf courses in close proximity, tennis, horse-riding, canoeing, sailing, wind-surfing, go-karting and fun water-parks for the children all close by.
