Pretty Holiday Cottage for 2 with private pool (exclusive use) and private fishing lake in beautiful countryside.
Chez Carreau is located in the Perigord Limousin Natural Regional Park and stands in its own 5 acre grounds with mature gardens, surrounded by chestnut and pine woods in the unspoilt countryside of the Dordogne/Haute Vienne.
La Bergerie holiday cottage is a beautfully restored detached stone cottage that sleeps 2 people. The accommodation comprises open plan well equipped kitchen with dining and sitting area to the ground floor with double bedroom and en-suite shower room above. There is UK TV and hi-fi system. There is a paved patio area and sun sundeck, swimming pool and private fishing lake.
The property has full central heating and is therefore suitable for winter breaks.

Chez Carreau is set in 5 acres of mature gardens and woodland in the heart of the beautiful French countryside. Our nearest village is Marval (3 miles away) and our nearest town St Mathieu (approx 4 miles).
All around we have beautiful countryside with endless wooded lanes for walking and the whole area is full of wildlife. There are deer, pine marten, wild boar, red squirrel and many types of birds, including birds of prey.
We are situated on the south west edge of the Haute Vienne, just 3 miles north of the department of the Dordogne and 4 miles east of the department of Charentes. Our region is known for having many lakes with well kept beaches that offer endless opportunities for swimming and sunbathing, fishing, and walking. The lakes also have bars and good restaurant facilities on site. Our nearest lakes with beaches, bar and restaurant facilities are St Estephe, St Mathieu and Bussiere Gallant, all less than half an hours drive.
There are many activities organised locally including concerts, walks, and fetes of all kinds. During July and August, there are evening markets where local farmers come to sell their produce. It is a street party atmosphere and chefs with BBQs are on hand to cook your purchases. There is music and dancing and everything provided for a great evening out.
Cycle hire is available locally and Brantome and Montbron offer canoe hire.

We have recently returned from a wonderful fortnight's stay at La Bergerie. We have holidayed in France regularly for nearly forty years, and stayed in many beautiful country gites. La Bergerie must go to the top of the list! The cottage is fully equipped. We enjoyed many meals on the adjacent patio in glorious sunshine, and ate out several times at some wonderful, good-value restaurants recommended by David and Rosemarie. There are lovely towns and villages to explore in the area. However, as it was so hot and sunny, we spent much time on site, as the gorgeous garden, so well-kept and spacious, large swimming pool and excellent sunbeds, and surrounding forest footpaths were all we needed for perfect tranquility. Thank you, David and Rosemarie, for being such friendly and helpful hosts, and for making our holiday so pleasurable. We certainly hope to return!

We have just returned from our first holiday in France since 2018. We chose this area as it was one we hadn't previously visited and made our booking for July 2020. We finally made it there in July 2022, having kept in touch with Rosemarie and David throughout, and are grateful to them for their patience in honouring our booking. La Bergerie is a super little cottage set in a beautiful large garden, perfect for two people to enjoy a relaxing holiday in the French countryside. The cottage has everything we needed, although we spent as much time outside as possible, taking advantage of the sunshine. There are plenty of opportunities for relaxing in the shade when the sun gets too much and the lovely pool is always available for cooling off. Rosemarie and David are perfect hosts, always helpful about places to visit and restaurants to try. They told us about local events and went with us to a farmers' market and barbecue in nearby St Mathieu - a super evening. We enjoyed the surrounding countryside and villages and also visits to Limoges and Brantome, but generally made sure we were back at the cottage for lunch and a relaxing afternoon in the garden and pool. We have been holidaying in France for many years and we have rented some stunning properties, David and Rosemary’s is up there with the best. The grounds are really well kept, the pictures are good but the reality is amazing. The property we stayed in is very sufficient for two people. It has everything you need. The pool area is lovely and the sun shines on it late into the evening..It’s a really good place for exploring the area, there are some amazing towns and villages within short drives away. We have recently returned from a two week stay in La Bergerie and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The gite is clean, well equipped and has everything necessary for a really comfortable stay. Rosemarie and Dave were perfect hosts - never interfering but very helpful with local knowledge and advice on where to go. The swimming pool is set in lovely grounds and we made full use of it when the weather was hot. The small fishing lake was an added bonus! Rosemarie had kindly left a welcome pack when we arrived which was greatly appreciated. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here to recharge batteries in the peaceful and tranquil Limousin countryside.Guest rating:

Our stay at "Chez Carreau" has always been a delight,with the owners Rosemarie and David always helpful if you need them. They have a idyllic garden 'with all the colors you would want,that surrounds a lovely big swimming pool. With it being all ways peaceful ideal for relaxing. We liked everything about our stay, we found Rosemarie and David very friendly and helpful. The gite and facilities were very clean and modern and the landscaped gardens are there to be enjoyed and appreciated. We would recommend a stay at Chez Carreau to anyone and we wouldn`t hesitate to re-book in the future.

We had a 2 week holiday at Chez Carreau and it has to be 1 of the best holidays i've had. The owners are very friendly and always happy to help. The gite is beautifully furnished with all you need and if you do find something missing them its quickly sorted. The garden and pool are very well maintained and theres even a fishing lake with plenty of fish to catch. Whilst we were there we had a visit from a local deer family which was very special to see.
The surrounding areas offer plenty to see and do and the owners are very knowledgeable of what and where to go. I'm already planning my next visit to chez carreau and it can't come round soon enough. Thank you Rosemarie & Dave for a fabulous holiday.

My husband and I had a wonderful holiday staying at Chez Carreau. We stayed in La Bergerie which is the detached cottage and it is beautifully furnished and well equipped with everything that one needs for a week's stay. The grounds are lovely and there is a good sized swimming pool. A short walk down a country lane leads to the private fishing lake which my husband made use of. There are also some lovely country walks in the immediate vicinity or you can drive to large lakes where there are sandy beaches. All in all I would say that this is a great place to stay if you want a peaceful and relaxing holiday. A car is essential as the local shops are a short drive away. The owners Rosemarie and Dave are extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome. We shall certainly be returning in the near future.
