Our self-catering holiday cottages are located in the heart of one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of southwest France - The Dordogne Valley - making our cottages the ideal base for a sightseeing holiday in The Dordogne.
From the era of Prehistoric Man through the Middle Ages and beyond the Dordogne is steeped in history. The Dordogne region also formed the historic frontier between France and England during the Hundred Years War and this rich heritage offers a renowned variety of sights for you to discover.
The Perigord boasts numerous castles, churches and medieval bastides towns as well as beautiful stone villages and prehistoric caves, all set in some of France’s loveliest countryside. Explore the ancient town of Sarlat, or discover the castle Beynac, once captured by Richard the Lionheart.
The rich and abundant culinary tradition of the region ensures a wealth of gastronomic treats, and a vast choice of markets, shops and restaurants.
The Dordogne river meanders throughout undulating hills, forests and limestone cliffs with new discoveries around every corner.
In the heart of the Dordogne Valley, we are perfectly located for exploring ancient chateaux, beautiful stone villages and the world-renowned historic sights of the region including Sarlat la Canéda where the ancient narrow streets burst with local produce on market day.
Discover the second most-visited site in France - Rocamadour - a medieval treasure that is literally hanging off the cliffs of the Alzou canyon. Enjoy the fun of canoeing down the river, which winds through breathtaking valleys. Visit the prehistoric caves of Lascaux, where extraordinary cave paintings (17,000 years old) tell the tales of prehistoric man.
Outdoor activities from hot-air ballooning to golf, walking and cycling are all very close to our holiday accommodation.
The Dordogne is also a fantastic family friendly area, full of fun activities for kids. They can canoe or swim in the river, which is quite safe and shallow in the summer months. For kids in need of thrills, they can splash in a waterpark with slides, pools, trampolines & bouncy castles (15 kms from us). Or they can go tree climbing in La foret des Ecureuils where they can jump from tree to tree and dangle from a flying fox 40 feet above the ground! Step back into history at the castle of Beynac with its museum of ancient warfare - a great place to visit.
Finally, after a long day’s activities, you can choose from a variety of restaurants as the rich culinary tradition of the Dordogne offers many gastronomic experiences ranging from Haute Cuisine to traditional French food.

Fantastic Gite. Well appointed and comfortable. Quiet location with great views from the garden and pool area. Situated in a great area with lots to do within a short drive. Thick stones walls meant it stayed pretty cool inside even on some pretty hot days. I would stay here again if I was heading to the Dordogne. Also the free bottle of local red wine was really rather good.
Guest rating:
What a beautiful setting! We stayed in The Old Barn which was spacious, cool and extremely clean. The pool was very welcoming with lovely views of the countryside. There is so much to see in the area, many beautiful villages to visit. We even managed to see a stage of the Tour de France which passed through Rocamadour. On that note, the area is very good for road cycling, not too hilly. Sean and Cecile are very friendly, welcoming hosts. We highly recommend Laborie gites.
Guest rating:
Excellent stay The listing really matches the photos on site. Cecile is very welcoming, and always responded quickly to our various requests. The area is beautiful, there are so many places to visit, the people are very friendly. The garden is charming, the pool very clean. The place is very quiet. We'll be more than happy to come back and visit again. We thoroughly recommend this place.
Guest rating:
Very nice accommodation in a lovely property and in a beautiful locale. Quiet but with amenities nearby and the bonus of the pool!Guest rating:
We were looking for a stone gîte in a hamlet near the Dordogne to relax and enjoy nature. We've achieved our goal... We loved the swimming pool in the afternoons after our walks or sightseeing trips.Well-maintained property. We were pleased with the change of scenery and the location is ideal if we want to get away from the noise, crowds etc. Plus very Friendly owners
Guest rating:
Laborie was everything we hoped for and more. A beautiful setting, with an extremely clean and welcoming gite. The pool was amazing and the kids spent many hours of fun splashing around. Everything you could want on your doorstep. Friendly hosts. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Laborie and if we find ourselves back in the Dordogne again for a holiday we will be sure to book the Old Barn again. Thank you for providing the best setting for a wonderful family holiday!

This is the second time we (2 adults and 2 teenagers) visited Sean and Cécile at Laborie and the Old Barn. It is such a beautiful, peaceful place and a fantastic base for exploring the area.
We visited Collonges-la-Rouge and of course Rocamadour and Sarlat and Carennac. The previous year we went to Martel, which is also very charming and picturesque and has market days on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. One of the best outings this time was a visit to Brive and the Saturday market – very busy but not touristy. We also really enjoyed our canoeing trip from St Sozy to Pinsac and visiting Le Gouffre de Padirac, which is just amazing but gets really busy so worth booking an early time slot. On our way to Sarlat we stopped at Zoo de Calviac which is a very relaxed small animal park in the middle of mature woodlands (located on a very steep hill).
Souillac is around 20 minutes drive away and is great for food shopping, it has an Aldi, Lidle and a large E Leclerc. Opposite the E Leclerc is a daily local food market where you can buy anything from fresh fruit and veg to bread and wine. We discovered a locally produced red wine in a 5-litre box for less than 13 Euros and we thought it was really delicious. On the way you will drive past an excellent pottery Le Potier De Mayrac – we always seem to find something to take home with us.
St Sozy has a great pizza restaurant with very friendly staff and the local Spar is great for top up food purchases and fresh croissants and bread. The local butcher is also excellent.
When we were not busy it was lovely to just chill by the pool, especially on hot days. Sean and Cécile have created a little paradise – beautiful mature gardens with lovely views over the country side. We will be back.Guest rating:
We had a relaxing week, a total change of scenery. We needed to get back to nature and we were already fascinated by the area. Nice house with all amenities, the pleasant pool and the excellent welcome of Cécile and Sean who are very good hosts. I highly recommend this rental which is perfectly located for visits and activities. Ideal for couples or families.

The Old Barn was comfortable and well-equipped in a lovely setting. The area was very scenic with lots to see and do. We really enjoyed our stay, would visit again and would recommend Laborie to our friends.
Guest rating:
We had an amazing time, despite the constant astronomic temperatures! The house was lovely and had everything we needed for the two weeks. The whole area is utterly beautiful and we will definitely be back sometime in the future. Thanks again for letting us stay in such a wonderful place.
Guest rating:
We had a thoroughly enjoyable week staying in this barn-conversion gite, superbly renovated to an exceptional standard. The shared pool was a great asset, the facilities perfect, and the location wonderful.
Guest rating:
Thank you for a lovely stay, we loved the Barn, it was everything (and more) that we expected. As with our previous stay, which was in the Bread Oven, the welcome was with open arms, the Barn accommodation was amazing, clean, tidy, & vast! The pool was again a godsend on the hot days and after a long day exploring what the region has to offer - the steam train at Martel with its spectacular views, the various caves steeped in history and low ceilings; Rocamadour is beautiful and if you’re prepared to drive a bit further, the VeloRail was incredible fun but tiring on the way up!
Guest rating:
Thanks again for a lovely stay at Laborie - we really enjoyed our week in Meyronne and exploring the region. It's such a great place, and the kids certainly absolutely loved the pool!
Guest rating:
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here in the Dordogne. Sean and Cecile were great hosts and the gite was perfect for us to relax and enjoy one of our favourite areas in France. We would definitely recommend!
Guest rating:
We had such a great time at Laborie. The barn was fantastic – perfect for families – and roomy enough to find your own space. The location is amazing too, near to so many amazing villages and caves yet so relaxing and wonderfully quiet. I have a picture of the field behind the barn on my screensaver already to remind me that life is not all about work!
Guest rating:
We enjoyed our holiday at the barn house very much. Cecile and Sean were very welcoming and friendly from the very beginning. The barn house was beautiful and very clean. Our garden area was ideal for sitting out and taking in the amazing landscapes. The fantastic pool was really needed in the great weather. Altogether our experience exceeded our expectations, and I would definitely recommend it. Cecile and Sean were great hosts with super recommendations for local restaurants and local activities.

We were lucky enough to stay at The Barn at Laborie in July 2018.
The accommodation is stylish and comfortable with bright, airy living spaces and two good sized bedrooms. The outdoor space is amazing with open fields to the rear of the property equipped with bbq and seating area. The swimming pool and gardens are beautiful and very well maintained by Sean and Cecile and a welcome retreat on hot days.
The location of the property is ideally suited for touring the surrounding area and there are so many beautiful medieval villages and delightful spots along the Dordogne River to explore - by canoe if you are feeling energetic!!
Sean and Cecile could not have been more helpful when offering advice on where to visit and recommendations on restaurants etc.
We had the most wonderful holiday and certainly hope to return to this hidden gem.Guest rating:
We recently discovered that September in the Dordogne valley is a wonderful experience, made all the more enjoyable by the exceptional peace, tranquillity and comfort of The Barn at Laborie. A complete absence of pressure allowed our batteries to recharge and perspective to return as we meandered through beautiful villages and walked around the local area. We thoroughly recommend Laborie and are thankful to our hosts, Sean and Cecile for helping make it a holiday to remember for a long time!
Guest rating:
We had such a lovely time at Laborie. It was perfect for us with our 2 year old, everything we could need. The Barn was beautifully decorated and comfortable. Loved our little garden that overlooked the fields, we had a couple of BBQs out there! Great pool area. Just perfect. Cecile and Sean were always happy to give advice on the area and where to visit and eat. We really loved visiting this part of France too, it's stunning and so much to do and see, from the river to the medieval towns. Everything you could want! Loved it we'll be back.
Thanks again for everything.Guest rating:
We stayed in the The Barn at Laborie for two weeks in July 2017 and had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday.
The property is lovely with great facilities, with a large open plan living space and good sized bedrooms. It has a nice private patio area at the rear of the property looking out over fields where we enjoyed having meals and playing boule.
The properties are in lovely grounds with a nice swimming pool which has a very pleasant seating area around it.
In the locality there is plenty to see and do. We especially enjoyed canoeing on the river and going to a couple of traditional evening fetes in local villages to enjoy the food and drink which were great fun.
Within a few miles there are some nice restaurants offering a range of choices and prices.
One of our favourites was next to the road just up the hill from Lacave which offered a great value no frills menu which included four courses, wine and coffee with a shot of liqueur for 14.50 euro, all delicious.
Further afield Brive offers a good selection of shops (at least as far as my teenage daughter and wife were concerned) and some nice restaurants.
Many other beautiful places to visit including stunning villages such as Carennac and larger towns such as Sarlat.
Sean and Cecile were excellent hosts and couldn’t have been more welcoming. Seanwas more than happy to give us advice about places to visit and thing to do in the area which was most helpful.
We had a wonderful holiday at Laborie and couldn’t recommend it highly enough.Guest rating:
Fantastic stay at laborie. A fantastic location-so much to see end do in the area. The gite is beautifully finished and well kept and the hosts were very friendly and helpful. Pool was very welcome too. Would definitely recommend.
Guest rating:
This was our first time staying at the barn we were so taken in by the tranquility and scenery. There was easy walking access to the local village shops and bars. The gite was perfect , and the hosts even more so , offering friendly and knowledgeable advice for the local area. We will definitely be returning.Guest rating:
We have had a wonderful week at Laborie. It’s in a lovely location and the facilities in the Barn were excellent and just as we expected from the website descriptions and photos. It was an ideal place to either spend relaxing time in the garden and pool or to visit the local sights. The canoeing was a highlight but a week was not long enough! Would definitely recommend Laborie as a place to stay when visiting this area. Thanks again, and good luck to you both.Guest rating:
Laborie is an idyllic setting with excellent quality facilities. The Barn had everything that a family of four could want in a gite & the pool was a focal point for those cooling afternoon dips. The location, whilst quiet for relaxation, also has the necessary shops within easy reach by car in Souillac or by a pleasant walk, or cycle, for necessities in St Sozy. The location of Laborie allows easy access to spectacular villages & our trips to Rocamadour & Sarlat were a particular highlight. Sean & Cecile are most helpful hosts with plenty of suggestions for places to see & activities to keep a 13 year old & an 8 year old occupied. Indeed, Sean’s suggestion of kayaking down the Dordogne was perfect & provided us with a most memorable holiday experience. This is a special place owned by special people!Guest rating:
We have just spent a wonderful half term with our 2 grandchildren (aged 4 and 22 months) at Laborie. It is a stunning rural setting, very peaceful and safe. We were lucky to have lovely weather, so we made good use of the pool and had breakfast outside. Quite a treat in May! One beautiful evening we had a BBQ and watched the sun go down.We have four children and an ever growing family and Laborie offers a perfect place for larger family gatherings too.Sean and Cecile could not have been more helpful for our varied needs. Eva was an inspiration to our 4 year old for swimming. Many thanksGuest rating:
What can I say about this property that I am sure hasn't already been said. 'The Barn' that we stayed in was really great everything that you needed and very spacious and most important plenty of hot water. What we found was so nice, after a day visiting some of the lovely places to go. was to relax around a very nice pool on comfy sun beds then after dinner because of the glorious location you could go for a really nice walk. Sean and Cecile are charming people who will help out where they can and the directions that we received before we arrived were spot on. We don't normally recommend places to people as everyone is so different but this property we would, loved it. Sheila & Peter 17.09.14

We had a wonderful week at Barn Cottage. We are a family of four with two boys, aged 8 and 6. The cottage was spacious and equipped with everything that you need.
The cottage is an excellent location with good road links, very close to the River and plenty of places of interest to visit close by. Sean is very helpful to offer advice of what is worth visiting during your stay.
The photographs on the website are a good reflection of the actual accommodation - so there are no surprises when you arrive.

We had a wonderful time in Meyronne, when we initially booked we intended to use the Gite as a base, but the setting and The Barn was breathtaking, we spent quite a lot of time in and around, Meyronne and St Sozy. There was everything we needed in The Barn, we looked forward each night to preparing our evening meal and drinking in the views, enjoying the weather and chatting to the other guests. There was soooo much to do, plenty activities and the info/directions/suggested places to visit from Sean and Cecile was spot on. We were a party of 4, 2 adults and 2 children, the children are age 15 and 10, we had no problems finding things to do and places to see that suited everyone. It was our first visit to The Barn/Dordogne but it won't be our last, there's soooo much we have yet to see. We had no issues at The Barn but I'm sure if there was Sean and Cecile would have been on the ball. We reluctantly would definitely recommend it, reluctantly only because we want to keep it all to our selves.
Guest rating:
The Barn was finished to a very high standard, very spacious, clean and had everything we needed, e.g. washing machine, dishwasher, t.v. fridge. Owners were very friendly and helpful, supplying useful information regarding surrounding area. Pool was great for kids, surrounding gardens were superb for kids to play, plenty of room. On a quiet road but within ten minutes walk to Meyronne village and Saint Sozy, a beautiful area. Would definitely visit again as there are so many places to visit locally. Car essential.

Good Luck to you bothChris and Dave

Laborie provides beautiful, high quality accommodation in a stunning area of the Dordogne. Sean and Cecile have clearly invested an amazing amount of care, attention and money into ensuring that the cottage meets the needs of even the most demanding of customers. The accommodation is as beautiful as the pictures on the web of not more so and was perfectly suited to us as a professional couple looking for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Key highlights included insightful advice from the owners about lovely places to visit and eat allowing us to make the most of our time in the area, all the amenities and gadgets you could need to help you enjoy a stress free stay with all the comforts of home and stunning views that leave you feeling sorry to go inside when the sun goes down. We would highly recommend Laborie.
Guest rating:
We stayed at Laborie during early September 2012. It was our second holiday at Laborie, but our first time staying in The Barn. The Barn is a beautiful spacious accommodation, tastefully decorated throughout with a very well equipped kitchen. Round the back of the accommodation is your own secluded garden, complete with table and chairs and a BBQ, which is where we spent most of our evenings making the most of the last of the rays sunshine with a glass or two of the local wine.
Laborie is a very peaceful location in rural France, but only a short drive/cycle away from the local shops, bars and tourist attractions and whichever direction you head in, you can guarantee that the scenery will be stunning. Rocamadour is definitely worth a trip, and if you are feeling energetic there are activities such as kayaking and horse riding close by, otherwise you can always take it easy and cool off by having a swim in the pool while waiting for the BBQ to heat up.
We would definitely recommend Laborie and The Barn, it felt like a second home for us (except with the benefits of sunshine, tranquillity and a pool!) and the owners Sean and Cecile really made us feel welcome. We will return !

Thank you both so much for such a perfect holiday. The three properties are nestled on one plot of land that has been cleverly designed so that each has its own outdoor space and privacy. The accommodation and surrounding gardens are immaculately kept!
The Barn itself is spacious, airy and tastefully furnished in a simple French style and has all that you will need for a relaxing holiday. The short walk to the nearest village is a pleasure for all your senses; fantastic scenery, orchards bursting with ripe fruit and gardens with extraordinary vegetables, a mix of old and new properties and an abundance of birdlife! Laborie is just the right mix of French Life; idyllic setting, sleepy lifestyle, sun, food, drink etc. It is ideally situated for all the tourist attractions (if wanted) and run by the two loveliest people ever and such wonderful hosts! We will definitely be recommending you to our friends...
Guest rating:
The accommodation was beautifully presented, spacious, spotlessly clean and welcoming. Everything we needed was there and they were very welcoming hosts. The area is stunning, with plenty of sites to see and things to do ... even if that was doing nothing by the pool. Thank you very much for allowing us to stay at Laborie, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will hopefully return again in the future. We will recommend you to all our friends and family.
Guest rating:
My partner and I had a fantastic time at Laborie. The weather was perfect and we were really pleased that we had decided to base ourselves at Laborie. Sean and Cecile made us feel very welcome and were great hosts – we hardly noticed that they were there but they were always available when we needed something such as a recommendation for a restaurant. We stayed in the Barn, which has been renovated recently. They did a great job – the building still retains its period features but inside it's light and airy and equipped with all you'll need for a self-catering holiday. And this is a great part of France - the surrounding countryside is really peaceful and it's only a short drive to some great villages: Sarlat, Beynac... I totally recommend Laborie as an ideal place for a holiday.
Guest rating:
The Laborie was absolutely perfect for a family vacation: the location, the size of the property, the pool, the helpfulness of Sean and Cécile. Things were ready when we got there, and Sean was more than helpful in getting us oriented. The pool was particularly nice -- the salt water makes such a huge difference for the kids and their eyes! The Barn was just the right size for a family of four. The kids declared the beds the most comfortable they'd even slept in (!). The village of St-Sozy had most of everything we needed, and there was loads to do in the area. The barn was very light-filled, especially if you opened the doors (though the flies were particularly bad while we were there; no fault of the owners!). We felt we had enough privacy while also being able to interact with the other visitors at the other cottages.
We would definitely stay here again and already wish we were back. Thank you so much!
Guest rating:
A stunning location matched only by the standard of the property and welcome from the owners Sean and Cecile. 2009 will be our 3rd year of returning to Laborie - scenery, food (drink!), relaxation, sun, culture...it remains our key 'wind down' vacation of the year. Since we first visited we have returned with family in tow and we do so again this year. Rocamadour never fails to take our breath away, or the view over the Dordogne from Domme. We dined at La Terrasse last year, and it is really something special, but a 10 minute walk into St. Sozy will get you an excellent cassoulet or confit, in the more informal atmosphere of the local hotel. The opinions never differ - if you want a warm, welcoming, peaceful holiday with all that rural France has to offer, then a visit to Laborie and the surrounding area is a must.
