Superbly Presented House in Medieval Heart of Lively Village
"South France Village Houses" (Rue Baratier and Rue des Fontaines) are 2 delightful 3 storey houses lying in the medieval heart of a lively gardoise village. Each house has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 4 people. Situated in the desirable district of the Vaunage between the vibrant cosmopolitan towns of Nimes and Montpellier. Calvisson lies surrounded by vineyards, beautiful countryside and stunning scenery to the north and the vast sandy beaches of the Mediterranean coastline and the Camargue to the south.
The village itself with all amenities is buzzing with people going about their everyday lives and there is the added treat of the busy market selling local produce, flowers and artisanal products, which takes place in the village square every Sunday morning.
The beautifully decorated interiors of Rue Baratier and Rue des Fontaines, designed in neutral colours to reflect the classical stonework, provide an elegant and refined setting. Accented with period antiques of the region and with fully integrated modern conveniences, the houses are a blend of old world charm and up-to-date facilities.
Anybody with an appreciation of the seamless mix of stylish living with period furnishings would be enthralled by this special living environment which captures the essence of the best of village life in the heart of this lively village.
Entrance to Rear Vaulted Courtyard
The entrance to the property is through the original three-and-a-half meter wide arched entryway. A voluminous stone-vaulted room extends from the entrance to the back of the property where the outdoor seating area and bassin are located. In between is an area of calm and relaxation to be enjoyed at any time of the day. It includes the summer kitchen with a fully functional cooking area including an electric grill, gas burners, refrigerator and dishwasher. And opposite the kitchen area a large built in couch, an ideal place for a siesta after a meal.
Just past the summer kitchen there is a lovely rear courtyard decorated with pots, trees and shrubs of the region. The small 'bassin' with fountain provides a welcome cooling off area from the midday sun which floods the courtyard, whilst the exterior lighting allows you to take your aperitifs and evening meal on the outdoor table and chairs in the cool night air.
First Floor
- Kitchen/ Dining Area - The original stone staircase to the right of the main entrance leads up to a landing area with access to the kitchen/dining area to the left and the salon to the right. This room includes a large fireplace, computer niche and antique wood dining table seating people for casual or elegant dining. The kitchen is fully fitted with ceramic hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave. There is ample storage space and it is equipped with all the utensils and crockery required for preparing your lovely Mediterranean meals with fresh local market produce.
- Living Area (Salon) - Opposite the kitchen is the salon outfitted with dark oak wood flooring and a large welcoming couch from which to watch the flat screen TV. A three meter by three meter picture window occupies the wall behind the couch offering splendid views of the village, valley and surrounding hillsides. A powder room just off the salon completes this floor.
Second Floor
- Master Bedroom - A charming stone staircase and metal railing lead from the salon to the upper bedroom level. Turning right at the top of the stairs takes you past the bathroom and into the master bedroom. The king size bed will surely help you recuperate from a long day of touring the French countryside. An antique chest and mirror juxtapose effortlessly with modern paintings on the walls. A built in hanging closet and drawers provide ample space for a long or short stay.
- Twin Bedroom - Turning left at the top of the stairs brings you a very comfortable second bedroom with twin beds, a large antique armoire and a hanging flat screen TV with satellite and DVD player. Again, the view from this bedroom's window is as stunning as from the salon window.
- Bathroom - The bright and airy bathroom (shared by both bedrooms) contains a double sink, bathtub and shower, and is tiled with a stone cut from a local quarry.
- At both properties there is a lovely rear courtyard decorated with pots, trees and shrubs of the region.
- The small 'water bassin' with fountain at each property provides a welcome cooling off area from the midday sun which floods the courtyard, whilst the exterior lighting allows you to take your aperitifs and evening meal on the outdoor table and chairs in the cool night air.
- Rue des Fontaines has a stunning vaulted fully equipped summer kitchen and dining area.
