The typically French village of Marseillan Ville is a little gem nestling in the Southern coastal vineyards of Languedoc-Rousillon at the start of the Canal du Midi, which winds its way from the Mediterranean towards the Atlantic. Marseillan Ville is a small harbour set on a large sea water lagoon called the Bassin de Thau, which separates the village from the adjacent Mediterranean Sea. The lagoon, famous for oyster and mussel cultivation, also attracts many fishermen, windsurfers, sports sailors and flamingos alike!
Walking through this friendly medieval village you will immediately transcend into the typical charming Southern French village with its XVII Century stone town houses, once used for storing and producing wine from the local vineyards, Oleander lined streets and cafes and restaurants, many situated alongside the boats in the port. In the village, supplementing the street market and modern supermarché you will also find many specialist shops selling oysters and local wines to supplement your lunch or dinner.
Arriving at the Port of Marseillan Ville you will be reminded of what St. Tropez may have been like 30 or 40 years ago. This is where many visitors from the Canal du Midi boats moor up to spend the evening in the restaurants and cafés bordering the port. The famous 'chais' and showrooms of Noilly Prat can be found here as well as small antique 'treasure' shops. A rather grand XVII Century baroque mansion stands proudly by the port, built by the original architect of the Canal du Midi around 1680.
Marseillan Ville, dating back to the 6th Century BC, will take you back in time and will make your holiday most relaxing and memorable by catering to all of your senses.
owners from Marseillan Ville to explore the Lagoon, see the famous oyster beds or cruise on the Mediterranean. Boat trips are also available to visit the Canal du Midi where the platens trees will shelter you from the afternoon sun.
There are 36 wine domaines in the near vicinity of Marseillan! They will welcome you with open arms - you can taste the wine on the premises and try out your French with a good chat about the best wines.
St. Guilhem le Desert (60 mins by car): hidden in the hills, this medieval village boasts one of the most splendid Abbeys in France.
Grotto of Clamouse (60 minutes by car): a visit to the nearby impressive and awe-inspiring Grotto of Clamouse will cool you down.
Roquefort (60 mins by car): the area where they all say cheese and where arguably the best and most famous cheese in the world is made...
Montpellier (40 mins by car or 30 mins by train): the beautiful Roman city for serious shoppers. A magical blend of the old and new with a great selection of Cinemas, Opera House and designer boutiques. If you have an urge for the big city vibes or want to 'shop till you drop', then this is the place to go.
Sete (30 min by car): located on top of an extinct volcano, Sete is the biggest fishing harbour on the Coast. It has wonderful views and boasts some of the best fish restaurants in the area.
Get your bike, paints or whatever...although a small village, Marseillan and its surrounding neighbours cater for all sports. Many painters also come here to capture the picturesque surroundings in the wonderful Mediterranean sunlight.

Just returned from a wonderful family holiday at this excellent villa. The villa is exceptionally well equipped with everything you could need for a family holiday. It is very well located and just a short drive to large supermarkets and within walking distance of Marsellian (which is very pretty and with excellent restaurants and shops). It was also a short drive from the beaches of the area but there is also a regular bus which stops not far from the villa. We used the villa as a base to explore the wider area and the train station at Agde was about 15 minutes drive away with free parking and very good connections to Nimes, Carcassonne, Arles and other towns in the area. We will definitely be back to stay here again.Guest rating:
What a wonderful relaxing holiday we had in this lovely house. Located in the beautiful town of Marseillan but near to wonderful beaches ( and Vinyards ?) The house is brilliantly equipped for a great family holiday and Derek and Lisa who are close by were so helpful and had great advice on local things we could do. We had 3 weeks there and were very sad to leave. We will hopefully be back soon.Guest rating:
We absolutely loved our stay at this lovely villa. Derek and Lise are amazing hosts and made us feel so welcome, even before we arrived. Loads of great information to help us before our stay, and Derek even booked a restaurant for us for our first night there. The villa has absolutely everything you could possibly need for a perfect stay, and is located in a quiet area within walking distance of the beautiful harbour and town with great restaurant choices. We also went out for the day with Derek and Lise on their beautiful cruiser which was a highlight of our trip. Also make sure to visit Noilly Prat - the cocktail bar is fabulous! We would love to visit Villa Belles de Mai again and would strongly recommend for a wonderful holiday!Guest rating:
We had a wonderful two week holiday in this beautiful property. The Villa itself is superb - highly equipped, clean, private and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool, sun loungers and BBQ area - just what we hoped for! Derek and Lise were such great hosts. We felt looked after and received great communication before, during and after our trip. Derek helped us discover the quiet areas of beach and we even enjoyed a boat trip on his stunning boat. This was the very first time we have taken our dog (Layla, chocolate Labrador) out of the country and she absolutely loved it! The beach, with a dog friendly area, was only 10 mins drive away. Layla settled into the holiday life really well and loved all the attention she got from the friendly local people of Marseillan. We only wish we could have stayed longer - thank you very much Derek and Lise! We hope to return again before long... Kind regards Justin, Mandy and LaylaGuest rating:
We have just returned from a superb two-week stay at this lovely villa. Derek and Lise are very friendly and considerate hosts; attentive when needed, otherwise very respectful of visitors’ privacy. They had ensured that the apartment was spotlessly clean and Covid-ready. The villa was homely, comfortable and had plenty of space (we were 2 adults and 2 teenagers). Having 2 secluded outdoor areas; one with barbecue and dining area (and off-road parking) and the other with the lovely pool and relaxation area, made it perfect for our needs. While some of our best days were spent just making the most of the villa and its facilities, Marseillan is a lovely small port town with plenty of great restaurants and bars, and it’s the home of the delicious Noilly Prat vermouths. It also has easy access to miles of superb beaches and is a terrific base from which to venture elsewhere and experience some of the other wonderful places in a fantastic part of France. Having regularly visited the South of France for over 30 years and having stayed in plenty of lovely places, This is definitely one to which we would like to return.Guest rating:
Lovely villa within quiet area and short walking distance of Marseillan, ideal for an evening dinner or drink out by the port. The villa was well equipped with everything you could possibly need, a lovely pool, all very clean and well kept. Good location, a few minutes walk the other direction to the start of the Canal Du Midi and easy drive to Marseillan Plage and Mèze. Friendly helpful owners, would recommend.Guest rating:
What a wonderful villa! Well placed between the town of Marsellian and the beautiful sandy beach of Marsellian Plage where you can hire and ride bikes without venturing onto the main roads. Lovely sized pool great for cooling off in and a very convenient BBQ for evening meals. Very peaceful and a great location to unwind.Guest rating:
This was second time we have stayed here. We originally wanted 3 weeks but Brexit concerns about pet travel meant we needed to reduce it to 2 weeks. Owners Derek and Lise were very helpful and managed to re-let the first week to help us. Holiday did not go as well as expected because of car troubles and again Derek was very helpful. Villa was as we remembered it - excellent. Pool was lovely and essential in the heatwave. We would return in a flash but as our dog is getting a bit too old we reluctantly will have to leave it a year or two.Guest rating:
We travel to Marseillan regularly, this was our 1st stay at Villa Belles de Mai, where we had a very friendly welcome from Lisa & Derek they made us feel really comfortable and shared their knowledge of the surrounding area too. Their villa is spotless and has all the facilities you need for a short or long stay. It is in a quiet Cal de sac with lovely front & back garden so all day sun! It is easily within walking distance of the town & port, but good to have a car if you want to travel further afield. We would definitely look to stay at this property again and thank our hosts for the hospitality.Guest rating:
We didn't really know much about Marseillian but I'm glad we didn't let that put us off as Derek was incredibly knowledgeable about the local area and talked us through it on a map. The villa itself was lovely and spotlessly clean; located in a quiet culdesac away from the more 'touristy' streets. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and the beach was perfect for smaller children. It was very quiet - except for Ascension Weekend when it was flooded with French families enjoying the sun - and the children could walk into the sea for quite some distance looking for shells without my deep water. On the note of the shells - they were some of the most spectacular shells we've collected on holiday! We would definitely recommend this villa and look forward to visiting again in the future.Guest rating:
Villa Belles de Mai is a great place to relax and holiday - VERY NICELY FURNISHED, clean and tidy with a lovely swimming pool, which for October was pretty warm and useable for the whole family ( outside daytime temperature ranged between 28--33 degrees ) The owners,Derek & Lisa, were very friendly and helpful particulary with all of the local information and recommendations for restaurants and site seeing trips further afield. The close Port of Marseillan, located on a sea water lagoon called the Etang de Thau, offers a range of bars and restaurants with good food including locally grown Oysters and Mussels. All in all a really good holiday and we can't wait to return next year for a longer holiday .
Guest rating:
Great holiday in Marseillan with it's excellent Port side restaurants and wineries etc. Particularly liked the Belem bar/ restaurant for very friendly atmosphere and good food including Tapas. There are other good restaurants and the villa is only 15 mins walk from the port, so there's no need to worry about who will drive home after drinking the lovely local wine with dinner. Villa and Pool as described 'Tasteful' and very well kept and comfortable with English Sat. TV and good free Internet connection! Pool was enjoyed by all and was surprisingly warm for September due to the special cover at night. We hired bikes to get the best from the place and really enjoyed the Mediterranean beaches at Marseillan Plage which were very uncrowded and extensive with a couple of good beach restaurants and sun bed hire etc. The owners were very welcoming and their knowledge of the area made our stay even more enjoyable. They pointed out where the good restaurants were locally and where to visit further afield for sightseeing and shopping to get the best out of our holiday. Hope to be back next year!Guest rating:
We stayed in this villa for two weeks and the four of us thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing and comfortable holiday. The villa was well-equipped, with everything maintained and working well. The Wi-fi and Sky TV were good throughout our stay. Contact with Derek from initial booking to arrival was efficient and the payments by BACS transfer worked well. Other reviews have described the proximity to the town of Marseillan, the port and its restaurant and the market. With one of us using a wheelchair, we also liked the boardwalks at the beach, leading to a nice beach cafe. We ventured to Bouzigues on the north bank of the Étang, with some nice restaurants. The mosaics at Loupian, near Mèze, and the archaeological site at Ensérune near Bézier were well worth a visit. We enjoyed relaxing on the patio by the pool, under the parasols and the awning and popping into the pool to cool down. The other patio, with table and BBQ was good for the evening as the sun went down. All in all, a good choice for a pleasant holiday.

Very relaxing family holiday in this well appointed villa with a nice warm pool and pleasant vineyard surroundings. Marseillan is a most charming, small french town situated on a lagoon off the Med. It is very well known for oyster and mussel cultivation. We found the Moules Brascade particularly appetizing along with a very interesting visit to Noilly Pratt the famous french vermouth producer which has been going since 1855! We also took a private boat trip on the Med. with Derek and Lisa on their motor cruiser and visited the Isle de Brescou where we had lunch and drinks on board and lots of swimming in the crystal clear sea around the island which used to be a prison in Napoleonic times. We very much look forward to our next holiday with Lisa and Derek who were most pleasant and helpful hosts.Guest rating:
A perfect place for us all to relax and enjoy the area. The owners, Derek and Lisa, we're excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome. They pointed out sites for us to visit and enjoy during the week. The villa was very clean and well equipped to cook but I must say we ate out most of the time and enjoyed the many great restaurants and bars in Marseillan. The private pool proved very handy as the temperature was quite warm. We had a great time enjoying bread, cheese, and wine by the pool. We would definitely come back to enjoy this villa again. Thank you Derek and Lisa for the wonderful time.
Guest rating:
The villa is ok, although the pool is some what smaller than it appears on the pictures. The location is fine, on a development on the outskirts of Marseillan. The owners where also readily available (as they live across the road) and helpful with local advice and letting us borrow a pump for the inflatable. However, the entire experience was destroyed by the immoral practice of only returning the entire security deposit in return for a positive review on this web site. £21 was retained by the owners in order to pay an alleged ‘tax de sejours’ 1. We were not made aware of this at the beginning of the holiday either by the agent or the owner 2. This would be covered by the owner in return for a positive review ..... aka Bribery Very disappointing and immoral - AVOID !!!!
Owners response:
We are most surprised to receive your review complaining at paying the €23 euro local Tax de Sejour, particularly as we gave you over £330 discount for a 1 week stay for your family of 3 booking ! The local tax pays for free Firework displays and general entertainment etc. It is clearly stated as extra on our Web advert and also in our Rental Conditions sent to you at the time of booking over 6 months prior to your arrival. Your review is also rather surprising as your husband Simon was very complimentary regarding the high quality of the Villa and Pool etc and thoroughly enjoyed himself along with you and your daughter Katie!
We are most pleased that your family enjoyed their stay at the Villa with all its amenities and location as we do take pride in the high quality of our accommodation and services. Best regards Derek & Lisa.

We stayed here for a week and had a a wonderful time. The villa is very well equipped with an excellent kitchen, a huge TV (not that we used it much) and wi-fi. We were even provided with a new bag of charcoal, fire lighters and matches for the bbq! Although the property gets sun much of the day there are parasols and the pool was a welcome place to cool off. The villa is in a quiet suburb with the many restaurants of Marseillan just a 20 min pleasant walk away and provides a great base to explore the surrounding area. Our favourite beach was at Marseillan Plage (Est) which has a large free car park which was never full and the beach was not too busy even in the middle of August. Derek and Lisa were excellent hosts with tips of where to go and what to see. Thank you for a lovely stay.Guest rating:
We stayed here for a week (wish it was longer), and thoroughly enjoyed it. Location is easy to get to if flying from Montpellier. The villa is lovely, very well appointed, new kitchen in a quiet neighborhood. It is a very easy and enjoyable walk into picturesque Marseillan, with a wide choice of restaurants, bars and shopping. Derek and Lise were great hosts and gave lots of information about the area; things to do etc. I would highly recommend staying here. A perfect balance of relaxing around the pool, with day trips to wineries, beach etc all within easy reach.Guest rating:
Villa is located about 750m outside Marseillan town centre in a very quiet suburb in a cul de sac. There is private gated parking or you can park just a few metres away off the street. The owners live across the road and are there should you need them but are never intrusive. The villa itself is extremely clean and well provided (lots of clean plates, cutlery, pots and pans, even a teapot, very nice furniture both in and outside) with a new kitchen also. The beds are some of the best we have slept on and with 3 bedrooms you can fight over who sleeps where. The pool, set in a small pretty garden, is a real bonus and the owner keeps it pristine. If you prefer the beach Marseillan plage is about 4km away. The acid test of any holiday is would you stay there again. We will be.Guest rating:
We have just returned from our July holiday week spent in Derek and Lisa's villa. It is well-appointed and very comfortable, while the sparkling pool is a delight and the outside space perfect for lounging in (or out!) of the sun. Marseillan itself is a friendly town, with lots of eateries; cafés from which to watch the world go by; a colourful market and an addictively relaxed pace of life. This combination means that we have returned home totally chilled, re-charged and contented!Guest rating:
A lovely holiday home in a quiet location, a short walk into the town and port for bars and restaurants. And only a short drive to the beach at Marseillan Plage. The property was very spacious with 2 seperate bathrooms and 3 large bedrooms. The villa was well equipped and had everything we needed for a fantastic holiday. We spent many nights sat on the patio in the sun and the peace and quiet of the villa. There was a lovely walk through the vines with our dog, and the pool was inviting after a sunny days of sightseeing. Overall - a great relaxing holiday in a fantasic location, and we hope to come back!Guest rating:
We stayed for a week at the beginning of July 2016. We stayed as a couple, so only used the upstairs double bedroom. The villa was very clean, very well equipped and in a good location. Although it is adjacent to other properties, the villa is built in a way that makes it feel private. The pool was an excellent feature - perfect for cooling off in after lazing around in the patio garden area. The villa had excellent wifi connection all week, great for picking up emails etc. The outside stone built BBQ is another great feature. It's on a patio at the rear of the villa with plenty of room for al fresco dinning. The villa is located in a quiet residential area, about 3 min drive from the old port town of Marseillian, along the coastal road towards Marseillian-Plage. There is lots to do in this area of France. All the local vineyards are open for 'degustation'. The restaurants in Marseillian are very good and not as expensive as some of the larger coastal towns. The beach at Marseillan - Plage is family friendly, safe with WC facilities and lifeguard management. Derek made us very welcome - his knowledge of the area and top tips made our week a complete success. Highly recommended.Guest rating:
Even now sat back home thinking of what to say we cannot recall anything about the property that was not exactly as the listing described. Our stay was well into the season but the apartment and all of its faclities were in tip top condition .The stroll into town is flat with the lagoon offering something new everytime and most evenings there were free events around the port area. The more Ithink about it,the more Id like to tell you, but if Idid there would be no slots available at Derek &Lisas for us to return!Guest rating:
Derek met us on arrival and went through everything we might need to have a great holiday. The house is super. It has wifi sky TV plus everything else you need like fridge cooker washing machine etc. A short walk to lovely harbour and short drive to fantastic beaches.I can not say enough about the place it was lovely and my wife daughter and her boyfriend and I had a great time. The house has loads of room and a lovely pool which was spotless.A wonderful holiday in a lovely part of France.Guest rating:

Just returned from a lovely week. Villa is well appointed, has everything you need and is close enough to the pretty port of Marseillan whilst still being a peaceful and relaxing location. The owners are very helpful and accommodating but not at all intrusive. Would highly recommend this villa.

We found the Villa in a very good, clean and tidy state. Everything one needs for self catering is there, including washing machine/iron if necessary. Pool area very private. Owners very helpful with local information etc. Certainly would recommend this to friends and relatives. Marseillan is a quiet port/town but not too quiet with enough variety of eating places etc. We found nearby Sete delightful, a bit more hustle and bustle if that is what you want, Wednesday market is well worth a visit.
