The typically French village of Marseillan Ville is a little gem nestling in the Southern coastal vineyards of Languedoc-Rousillon at the start of the Canal du Midi, which winds its way from the Mediterranean towards the Atlantic. Marseillan Ville is a small harbour set on a large sea water lagoon called the Bassin de Thau, which separates the village from the adjacent Mediterranean Sea. The lagoon, famous for oyster and mussel cultivation, also attracts many fishermen, windsurfers, sports sailors and flamingos alike!
Walking through this friendly medieval village you will immediately transcend into the typical charming Southern French village with its XVII Century stone town houses, once used for storing and producing wine from the local vineyards, Oleander lined streets and cafes and restaurants, many situated alongside the boats in the port. In the village, supplementing the street market and modern supermarché you will also find many specialist shops selling oysters and local wines to supplement your lunch or dinner.
Arriving at the Port of Marseillan Ville you will be reminded of what St. Tropez may have been like 30 or 40 years ago. This is where many visitors from the Canal du Midi boats moor up to spend the evening in the restaurants and cafés bordering the port. The famous 'chais' and showrooms of Noilly Prat can be found here as well as small antique 'treasure' shops. A rather grand XVII Century baroque mansion stands proudly by the port, built by the original architect of the Canal du Midi around 1680.
Marseillan Ville, dating back to the 6th Century BC, will take you back in time and will make your holiday most relaxing and memorable by catering to all of your senses.
owners from Marseillan Ville to explore the Lagoon, see the famous oyster beds or cruise on the Mediterranean. Boat trips are also available to visit the Canal du Midi where the platens trees will shelter you from the afternoon sun.
There are 36 wine domaines in the near vicinity of Marseillan! They will welcome you with open arms - you can taste the wine on the premises and try out your French with a good chat about the best wines.
St. Guilhem le Desert (60 mins by car): hidden in the hills, this medieval village boasts one of the most splendid Abbeys in France.
Grotto of Clamouse (60 minutes by car): a visit to the nearby impressive and awe-inspiring Grotto of Clamouse will cool you down.
Roquefort (60 mins by car): the area where they all say cheese and where arguably the best and most famous cheese in the world is made...
Montpellier (40 mins by car or 30 mins by train): the beautiful Roman city for serious shoppers. A magical blend of the old and new with a great selection of Cinemas, Opera House and designer boutiques. If you have an urge for the big city vibes or want to 'shop till you drop', then this is the place to go.
Sete (30 min by car): located on top of an extinct volcano, Sete is the biggest fishing harbour on the Coast. It has wonderful views and boasts some of the best fish restaurants in the area.
Get your bike, paints or whatever...although a small village, Marseillan and its surrounding neighbours cater for all sports. Many painters also come here to capture the picturesque surroundings in the wonderful Mediterranean sunlight.

We stayed in this lovely apartment in July 2023 for two weeks, the apartment is very well equipped and very private with a large terrace for dining. The pool is very welcoming in the afternoon heat and the gardens are beautiful! The location from the apartment into Marseillan port is excellent its only a short walk or cycle ride.Marseillan offers some delicious fish restaurants, and always seems to have something going on from local evening markets, to live music. A visit to Noilly Pratt is definitely worth while with wonderful cocktails! Derek and Lisa are very welcoming, and informative, and available if required. We look forward to our next visit, Jackie, David, and Meggie.Guest rating:
Having just returned from a two week stay in Derek and Lisa’s Garden Apartment I can wholeheartedly recommend. We needed a restful and peaceful holiday and this hit the mark. The apartment is clean, comfortable and practical. What really made the stay the most enjoyable for us was the outside space that the apartment comes with. A private pool, separate patio area with table, chairs and BBQ and also two comfy chairs in the shade of a porch. Many hours were spent lazing outside soaking up the sun in amongst well established planting. The walk into Marsellian is around 15 minutes along the path by the lagoon. Marsellian itself is a virtually unspoilt town with a wide variety of restaurants to choose from, particularly around the harbour. The hosts Derek and Lisa were very helpful but respected privacy.

My wife and I spent two weeks in late June in this cosy , private and well situated appartment. We can only endorse many of the other reviews posted by previous guests. It is a little gem for 2 people who require privacy and comfort in well equipped accommodation. Derek and Lisa go the extra mile to ensure you are happy and content in the surroundings without in any way being overbearing. As has been said by many previous guests it is an approximate 15 minute stroll to the town of Marseillan with it's plentiful shops and eateries. If you want a special treat try Les Deux M a real quality French restaurant. A little pricey but well worth the experience. Thank you also Derek and Lisa for the pool situated in such a lovely peaceful garden.

Recently returned from a wonderful holiday staying in Marseillan, a small pretty port situated on the Etang du Thau. We chose to stay at Beau Jardin having read so many excellent reviews of this property and we were not disappointed. The standard of this apartment was extremely high with the added bonus of a private pool. We swam every day and enjoyed relaxing in the sunshine in peaceful surroundings. The pool water is constantly filtered resulting in very clean and clear water. The adjacent garden area with patio table and bbq is set among delightful shrubs and flowers, providing a tranquil area in which to sit outside. The apartment is of a very high standard, spotlessly clean and very well equipped, including air conditioning. The friendly and welcoming owners, Derek and Lise, have a wealth of local knowledge and were available if needed, to give advice ranging from good local restaurants to places to visit. There are plenty of restaurants in Marseillan, the majority situated along the quayside of the port, a pleasant walk from the apartment along the shore of the lagoon. We would highly recommend a stay at Beau Jardin .Guest rating:
We had a great stay in this tranquil apartment which was just a 15 minute walk to the harbour town of Marseillan with it's excellent restaurants. Derek & Lise were marvellous hosts and we had full private use of the fantastic pool which was an absolute must given the temperature. We would certainly return again!Guest rating:
Have stayed with Derek and Lisa each year since our first visit in 2017. Arrived this year to find Derek and Lisa had completely revamped the garden making the area around the pool even more attractive than before. Again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with them as they are very hospitable and knowledgeable hosts and can well recommend their accommodation and also the villa which we stayed in last year.Guest rating:
We stayed in the 1 bed apartment for a week in August. From the point of booking Derek couldn't have been more helpful. Obviously with covid, traveling is a different process, but Derek and Lisa ensured that the apartment was cleaned to an extremely high standard and made us feel very comfortable. The apartment itself is perfect size for 2 with a lovely BBQ area and a beautifully maintained pool with sun loungers. There's a lovely kitchen with everything you could need if you decide to cook yourself or there's plenty of fabulous restaurants a short walk away when you want to dine out. Derek and Lisa are extremely respectful of your privacy, while ensuring they are available if you need anything. Marseillan is a beautiful place with the lagoon, port and canal du midi all within walking distance. The town and port area are typically french, with a beautiful village feel and lots of lovely restaurants. The Noilly Pratt distillery and tour is a must do. There's miles of beautiful and safe beaches just a short 5 minute drive from the villa. The "plage" area is more touristy than Marseillan town and port, but great for families as there's something for everyone. The apartment is also in the heart of vinyards, and great base to explore!

We spent an excellent week in this small but very well appointed garden apartment. The owners Derek and Lisa could not have been more hospitable with lots of good suggestions about where to hire cycles, where to eat and what to do. The apartment was ideal for a couple - a good sized double bedroom and shower room; a small but well equipped kitchen/ sitting area; a barbecue and outdoor dining table and the highlight - a large swimming pool with comfortable sun loungers in a secluded garden. The apartment is within very easy walking distance of the town centre and a good selection of restaurants. A hire car is probably essential to get the most of of the historical surrounding area.Guest rating:
We stayed in the Garden Apartment, and were really pleased with how it was furnished and equipped both indoors and outdoors. The barbecue area and pool are of a standard well above what you would normally find. The Apartment is well located with an easy walk into Marseillan. We didn't drive much but again an easy drive to Sete or Agde meant you don't have to spend too much time in the car. Some great restaurants in the town, and just outside are a number of lake side "shacks" that sell fabulous seafood. Lisa and Derek are on hand if needed but not obtrusive either, and gave us the benefit of their local knowledge which proved really useful, as well as being very tolerant of our excitable dog! Great area, great place. Highly recommended
Guest rating:
Situated in a quiet area of town, the relatively private apartment is compact, clean and equipped with most of your needs for a week away. The lovely pool is well maintained with sunbeds and the BBQ easy to use. The apartment sits beneath Derek and Lisa's property and they are always close to hand with lots of advice or generous offerings of their delicious home made chutney!

Friendly and informative hosts make this a superb relaxing break. Quiet area but near all amenities with markets in abundance in the locality. Walk into town about 25 minutes along the edge of the Etang. Lovely seating/bbq area. Apartment well-appointed and comfortable. Pool too cold in early May but would be great in the heat. Lots of good suggestions from Derek for visits/wine/restaurants. Highly recommended
Owners Response:
Hello Stephen
Many thanks for your excellent review of our Apartment + Private Pool in Marseillan.
It was very unfortunate that you arrived just after a rather stormy week which was responsible for cooling the swimming pool below the normal 27C in May ! Also you must have taken the 'scenic tour' to the Port as it usually takes most of our guests about 10 mins to walk there!
We look forward to welcoming you again next year.
Warm regards

We had a great time at the Garden Apartment. Derek and Lisa were fantastic hosts and helped us enormously after our flights were delayed two days due to the french Air Traffic Strike. Even suggesting the name of a British man to pick us up in his car from the Airport and help us to get groceries. The highlight of the week was using the swimming pool which we enjoyed every day. We also enjoyed using the BBQ and eating breakfast every morning on the table and chairs provided outside. Our flight delays meant we were unable to have the car for the week that we had hired. However we soon learned that the no. 9 bus stopped quite close by with a regular service to Marseillan, Marseillan plage and even as far away as Sete. All in all we had a lovely 5 days which wasn't long enough!

Our first stay in Marseillan with Derek and Lisa but certainly not our last. After a long drive down from an overnight stop we received a very nice welcome from Derek. The apartment had every thing we needed, and as others have mentioned, the garden and pool were most enjoyable especially as we were able to find shade at any time of the day. We stayed three weeks and were very pleased that we had booked enough time to enjoy not only Marseillan but the areas around with much guidance from Derek and Lisa who were very well informed about the best places to visit. Derek's suggestion of of the best route to Montpelier and where to park found us in the middle of the city with no problems. As an aside, we took the 'Noddy train' tour of the city which can thoroughly be recommended. It is well worth asking Lisa about Noilly Pratt as we had a wonderful tour there. Lots of cafes and restaurants within a short walk to the town and two markets each week as well as other events whilst we were there.Guest rating:
We wanted to go somewhere a bit different, favouring a relaxing trip away instead of the standard tourist affair, and we were not disappointed. Our apartment was lovely, had everything we needed and a few extra luxuries thrown in. Lisa and Derrick spared no expense in making us feel welcome and were always on hand to help if we needed it, offering advice on the local area and even a deeper insight into the history of the area which was actually really interesting to learn. The town of Marseillan-ville is only a ten minute walk along the water, it offers many places to eat, to visit and to see. We were staying in the off season but never found ourselves lacking something to do. We spent a night out eating and another at a surf bar on the waterfront. Between trips we made full use of the ample sized pool back at the villa, many wrinkles were gained over the week! Our highlight was the famous Noilly Pratt brewery in town, where we made our own cocktails (a couple of times!) and took a tour which again revealed a great history to the place. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we came back completely refreshed. We would highly recommend this lovely apartment.Guest rating:
We were looking for an apartment for 2, with a pool, which is not always so easy to find. We found a little gem here in Beau Jardin, Marseillan. The apartment is completely self contained and really well maintained , all just as the pictures show. The pool is absolutely lovely, much larger than you would expect and a delight to swim in. Derek and Lisa are perfect hosts, friendly and there when you want some information but otherwise leaving you to it. The surrounding area is a delight , the old port and town is a perfect distance away for an evening or lunchtime stroll, drinks and a meal. There are several restaurants here to choose from and even late on in the season it was great to sit out and watch the world go by. We used our hire car and visited several places nearby, as well as further afield. For a relaxing stay in a beautiful part of the world this little gem could be the place for you too.Guest rating:
The Garden Apartment is exactly as shown in the online brochure and doesn't disappoint in any way. It was spotlessly clean, very well equipped and tastefully furnished. The outside space is tranquil and very relaxing with a shaded outside table and BBQ plus a well kept garden with a private and secluded swimming pool. The property is located in a quiet area adjacent to a vineyard which also provides delicious blackberries (thanks Lisa). It is a leisurely stroll along the shore of the Etang to the delightful port and historic town of Marseillan. Derek and Lisa are a lovely couple and perfect hosts who were very helpful and provided lots of useful information. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and hope to return. If you're a couple looking for a relaxing holiday staying in excellent accommodation, then this is the place to stay. C'est si bon ici. Mike & GeraldineGuest rating:
Even now sat back home thinking of what to say we cannot recall anything about the property that was not exactly as the listing described. Our stay was well into the season but the apartment and all of its faclities were in tip top condition .The stroll into town is flat with the lagoon offering something new everytime and most evenings there were free events around the port area. The more Ithink about it,the more Id like to tell you, but if Idid there would be no slots available at Derek &Lisas for us to return!Guest rating:
We stayed in the Garden apartment for two 2 weeks in June and had a lovely time. The apartment is ideal for two people and the pool is gorgeous as well as being very private and in a quiet and sunny location. Derek and Lisa were ideal hosts and gave us lots of information to make our holiday perfect. We went out for many day trips and there is lots to see and do without traveling too far. We visited the Noilly Prat Distillery (thanks Lisa for a great tour) and it was really interesting. We would definitely recommend the apartment as it so convenient because you can walk into Marseillan for a meal, drinks, shopping and of course the local market. Thank you Derek and Lisa for making our holiday so enjoyable..Guest rating:
Derek met us on arrival and went through everything we might need to have a great holiday. The house is super. It has wifi sky TV plus everything else you need like fridge cooker washing machine etc. A short walk to lovely harbour and short drive to fantastic beaches.I can not say enough about the place it was lovely and my wife daughter and her boyfriend and I had a great time. The house has loads of room and a lovely pool which was spotless.A wonderful holiday in a lovely part of France.Guest rating:
We had a very enjoyable fortnight at this apartment. Derek and Lisa were great hosts, and more than happy to provide information and advice when asked. The apartment is comfortable, modern and well appointed - the kitchen was very well equipped, which made self-catering easy. Located in a quiet residential area and on the owners' secure property it was a great (and safe) place to stay. Being very close to the lagoon and within walking distance of the town centre it was easy to enjoy the local area. There is a good sized supermarket a short drive away, and other towns within easy reach by car. The weather was very hot while we stayed here, so we used the pool frequently - the pool is well looked after and very inviting.

Perfect Location for us we had a fabulous week at the Garden apartment and were made very welcome by Derek & Lisa and the free Wifi was much appreciated as we run our own business. The apartment is clean and the outside space is amazing this ideal for a week in one of the prettiest parts of France and Marseillan has lots of lovely places to stop and have a drink, lunch and dinner and we will be looking to return next year. So thanks Guys we had a fab time Tracy & Jeremy

After quite a hectic start to the year for my wife and I with quite demanding jobs, we badly needed a haven to just chill out and be for a few weeks. The apartment was perfect for this. The private gardens provided cool shade when needed and the well sized pool gave welcome relief during a lovely period of weather over our stay. The garden apartment was well appointed and very clean, and the wireless Internet access meant that we were not totally cut off from the outside world! With the town and port not far away, it was delightful to be able to visit the waterside restaurants and watch the boats come and go, eating the great seafood and wine. We were there during festival time and although we did not visit many of the events, the atmosphere in the town was really friendly and welcoming. Altogether a really great holiday which has set us up for the next 6 months (until next time?) We would recommend this to anyone wanting some quality 'time out'.

Kathy, my wife, and I stayed for one week at the garden apartment. This was booked over the Internet, with a certain amount of trepidation, not knowing what to expect and knowing a picture tells a thousand stories, but could also tell a misleading story. We must say we were not in the slightest bit disappointed, in fact quite the opposite, highly delighted. What you see on the website is what you get. Clean, tidy, short of nothing with accessible but not intrusive owners. The location was first class, the apartment was first class. Just quality! The recommendation to hire a car was ignored by us and did not impact on our holiday at all. We still managed Montpelier, Carcassonne, and other surrounding areas using public transport. Would we recommend Beau Jardin to others? If you are looking for a quality apartment, with a pool and all mod cons, then try Marseillan. I cannot see you being disappointed. Malc and Kathy Taylor.
