Frejus (Var)
The town of Frejus is situated in the eastern section of the French Riviera and is one of the highlights of the coast. Frejus was founded by Julius Caesar in 49 BC and has the ruins of a roman amphitheatre.
The fortified cathedral of St-Léonce et Cloître in Frejus dates from the 12th century. It incorporates a wonderful octagonal baptistry which dates from an earlier 5th century church. The 14th century cloisters which have ceilings painted with scenes from the apocalypse have an ancient well in the centre.
