Beaujolais Wine Region

The very name suggests a picturesque location with pretty villages set among rolling hills. Beaujolais offers all this - and gorgeously drinkable red wines too.

This is the land of the Gamay grape, which makes low tannin light to medium bodied reds that perfectly partner charcuterie, chicken and stews. Wines from older vines or from the top 10 crus villages are more rewarding and take on an ethereal almost Pinot Noir flavour.

Beaujolais is very picturesque and popular for walking and cycling holidays. For the full experience and a chance to re-evaluate Beaujolais visit the tiny hamlet of Le Perreon near Vaux en Beaujolais in the south and try the wines of the Bererd family at Domaine de la Madone.
