Ancient Wine Estate in Provence with Pool and Tennis
Domaine du Crestet, a Mas Provencal, built in mid 1800, consists of 4 Provence-style buildings situated around a central court, and it is situated in the middle of the vineyards with non-obstructed views to all sides, including Mont Ventoux and Le Crestet village (see below) with its church floodlit in the evenings.
In two of the buildings four luxury vacation houses names Grenache, Syrah, Olivier and Murier and an apartment named Cinsault have been created that are aimed at providing guests with a high level of completeness and luxury in an authentic Provencal setting, with 50 cm thick stone walls, roman tiles and exposed beamed ceilings.
All houses share the use of a 7m x 12m and a 3m x 3m swimming pool. Each houses' terrace has a dining table, deckchairs, a barbecue and a sun awning. Parking and gardens are found on the premises, the tennis court is at 100m

35 km east of the Rhone river in the upper part of the Provence, the recently restored estate Domaine du Crestet is located with its vineyard in the valley of the Ouveze. Just 3 km south of Vaison-la-Romaine in the Vaucluse department, you will find green countryside bordered on the west side by the rocky Dentelles de Montmirail (734m) and on the east side by the pre-Alpes with Mont Ventoux at a height of 1909m as a dominating feature, completely visible from the estate.
This valley has a very mild climate with over 300 days of sunshine a year with a long summer providing comfortable temperatures between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius in July and August. The hills and mountains around Domaine du Crestet offer many hiking and (mountain) biking trails, with beautiful views over the numerous wine fields and scattered small Provencal villages. The Ouveze river, a few hundred meters from the estate, offers various spots for swimming and multiple fishing opportunities. The Toulourenc river at 10 minutes distance offers a breathtaking canyon. The height of Mont Ventoux allows for down hill and cross country skiing on the northern slope on five pistes in colder winters, which are normally very short. With its green wooded base, well known for truffles, the bold top provides a different colour scheme effect several times a day.
Le Crestet (pop. 440) is a small protected medieval historical village on top of a hill. Surrounded by vineyards, olive and almond trees it has many small alleyways with beautiful architectural ornaments. The Financial Times recently quoted it as one of the best preserved and balanced typical small villages of Provence. At the top of the village is a small castle with a square that provides a staggering view over the valley, Mont Ventoux and Domaine du Crestet which is situated just several hundred meters east of the village center at the bottom of the hill. The village has 3 restaurants (2 in walking distance) and a bakery with daily fresh croissants just 250 m from the Domaine.
At the Domaine you can walk into the vineyards surounding the buildings, or enter the Dentelles de Montmirail that has many hiking and montainbiking tracks. We are well known as a good start point for mounting the famous Mont Ventoux (1912m) on your racing bike, the start of the climb at Malaucene is only 8 km away, thus you have a nice warming up!
Vaison-la-Romaine offers a wealth of historical monuments and a large open air museum about its romain history as wall as a amphi-theatre.

We visited The Domaine du Crestet at the foot of the medieval village several times now and stayed in different houses. All of them with a lot of authentic french details, comfortable and a well equipped kitchen to prepare dinners for long and relaxing evenings. We enjoyed the BBQ and the outdoor dinner in the evening accompanied with good wines and a glorious view at the Ventoux in red and orange. Though comfortable and well equipped in a beautifull surrounding countryside, its the open, friendly and attentive hospitality of Paul & Miriam who creates the special ambience. It starts with the welcome party at Saturday, were we met all the other guests and it stayed until we had to depart. It is a splendid base camp to make day-tours. Every time we came we had our bikes and boots with us to experience the different cols for a ride or nice walk. Of course, as we love good wines, we made a wine tour to search and taste new wines. Every time we depart with a load of bottles. As I noticed during the week, I didn’t watch TV nor mobile (just for a few pictures), for me this is a place to relax and forget the worries of all days. I am looking forward to return.Guest rating:
We visited The Domaine du Crestet in May. It is an ideal home for experiencing the real provencal life. It sits in the midst of vineyards with a spectacular view of Mt. Ventoux. The owners are a lively couple who host a first evening wine reception with other guests in the garden by the vineyard. Close by are plenty of areas of history and places for outdoor adventures, with the advantage of returning each evening to your private terrace with barbeque and outdoor dining. The guests gîtes are authentic renovated stone mas structures with fireplaces for the colder times, and fully equipped kitchens. It can be a week of adventure or relaxation as you choose. We have returned to Domaine du Crestet many times and stayed in each of the houses. All are unique and wonderful. It would be difficult to choose a favorite. First class standards with charm and warmth.Guest rating:
We had the wonderful opportunity to spend a week at Domaine du Crestet in May and it couldn’t have been any more perfect. This was a family gathering of 8 adults so we rented two of the houses—my husband and I stayed in the Murier and it was fantastic…from the huge living room to great bedrooms and bathrooms and a kitchen where we could prepare and eat meals all together. It served as our center point for daily trips into the beautiful surrounding countryside and towns – I think we covered everything from Avignon to Cassis on the Mediterranean. Our week began with a lovely cocktail party in the garden with our hosts, Miriam & Paul, and the other guests staying there. Throughout the week, they were always attentive and quick to supply any need or answer any question that we had. Overall, it exceeded our expectations and we would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to this area of Provence.Guest rating:
