Ancient Wine Estate in Provence with Pool and Tennis
Domaine du Crestet, a Mas Provencal, built in mid 1800, consists of 4 Provence-style buildings situated around a central court, and it is situated in the middle of the vineyards with non-obstructed views to all sides, including Mont Ventoux and Le Crestet village (see below) with its church floodlit in the evenings.
In three of the buildings 5 luxury vacation houses names Grenache, Syrah, Olivier, Viognier and Murier and an apartment named Cinsault have been created that are aimed at providing guests with a high level of completeness and luxury in an authentic Provencal setting, with 50 cm thick stone walls, roman tiles and exposed beamed ceilings.
All houses share the use of a 7m x 12m and a 3m x 3m swimming pool. Each houses' terrace has a dining table, deckchairs, a barbecue and a sun awning. Parking and gardens are found on the premises, the tennis court is at 100m
Provencal restaurant within 2 minutes walk.
The Viognier House is situated in the "Maison de Maître" of the Domaine. This prestigious home has many special features and style elements from the glory days of the Domaine. It has a surface of 170 m2 divided over 3 levels. On the ground floor there is a very spacious and luxurious kitchen with dining area, a living room with a beautiful fireplace, and a toilet. Through the stately Provencal staircase you arrive at the first floor with its large master bedroom with a large bathroom en-suite equipped with an Italian shower and a separate toilet. On the third floor there are 3 bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and a separate toilet.
Outside, in front of the house viewing south, there is a private courtyard of 85 m 2 with a sun awning of 27 m2, and a private garden of 78 m 2. Viognier has also a private garage (after 1.9.2015) and parking next to the House. Home and garden offer a view of the vineyard with behind it the Mont Ventoux.
35 km east of the Rhone river in the upper part of the Provence, the recently restored estate Domaine du Crestet is located with its vineyard in the valley of the Ouveze. Just 3 km south of Vaison-la-Romaine in the Vaucluse department, you will find green countryside bordered on the west side by the rocky Dentelles de Montmirail (734m) and on the east side by the pre-Alpes with Mont Ventoux at a height of 1909m as a dominating feature, completely visible from the estate.
This valley has a very mild climate with over 300 days of sunshine a year with a long summer providing comfortable temperatures between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius in July and August. The hills and mountains around Domaine du Crestet offer many hiking and (mountain) biking trails, with beautiful views over the numerous wine fields and scattered small Provencal villages. The Ouveze river, a few hundred meters from the estate, offers various spots for swimming and multiple fishing opportunities. The Toulourenc river at 10 minutes distance offers a breathtaking canyon. The height of Mont Ventoux allows for down hill and cross country skiing on the northern slope on five pistes in colder winters, which are normally very short. With its green wooded base, well known for truffles, the bold top provides a different colour scheme effect several times a day.
Le Crestet (pop. 440) is a small protected medieval historical village on top of a hill. Surrounded by vineyards, olive and almond trees it has many small alleyways with beautiful architectural ornaments. The Financial Times recently quoted it as one of the best preserved and balanced typical small villages of Provence. At the top of the village is a small castle with a square that provides a staggering view over the valley, Mont Ventoux and Domaine du Crestet which is situated just several hundred meters east of the village center at the bottom of the hill. The village has 3 restaurants (2 in walking distance) and a bakery with daily fresh croissants just 250 m from the Domaine.
At the Domaine you can walk into the vineyards surounding the buildings, or enter the Dentelles de Montmirail that has many hiking and montainbiking tracks. We are well known as a good start point for mounting the famous Mont Ventoux (1912m) on your racing bike, the start of the climb at Malaucene is only 8 km away, thus you have a nice warming up!
Vaison-la-Romaine offers a wealth of historical monuments and a large open air museum about its romain history as wall as a amphi-theatre.

We had the pleasure of staying with Paul and Miriam in October this year. It was a stand out of our 2 month journey through Europe. We hired bicycles and cycled through the vineyards and countryside, and even had an attempt at Mt Ventoux. Highly recommend as a place to spend a relaxing week or two. DarrenGuest rating:
We had an excellent holiday in this lovely property. The house has lots of charm, with a very well equipped kitchen and a lovely cool, comfortable sitting room. The owners were so welcoming and we loved the opportunity to meet our other holiday neighbours on Saturday evenings, when Miriam and Paul invited us for a drink in their garden. This part of France has the most beautiful scenery. A ten minute walk up the hill takes you into Crestet where the views are truly breathtaking. There's lots to do in the very near vicinity. Our 11 and 15 year old boys enjoyed floating down the river on rubber rings and climbing through the trees in the high wire park at Vaison la Romaine. We enjoyed this house and region of France so much we'll definitely return in the not too distant future.Guest rating:
Three generations stayed at Viognier in July/August 2017. We arrived after a short car journey from Avignon (having got the Eurostar from Ashford to Avignon). Viognier is a beautiful house, situated on the end of the building with a lovely private garden. All rooms are a good size. Beds very comfy. There was plenty of room for the 7 of us. The owners Miriam & Paul were very friendly & helpful - we enjoyed the welcome drink; it gave us a chance to meet with our neighbours for the week. When we stayed, it was very very hot. BBQs were not allowed because of fire risk; but fortunately the kitchen is well equipped and we had some lovely meals sat outside. The shared pool was great - especially to cool down in. The views all round the accommodation were amazing including Mount Ventoux & Crestet village. There are a couple of supermarkets in nearby Vaison - only a few minutes away. It was great to be able to walk to the boulangerie in the morning for pastries & bread. We eat out at Restaurant l'Epicurien which is only a 10 minute walk - food here was super. I would love to return to this holiday home.Guest rating:
We had a fabulous week at Domaine du Crestet staying in Viognier at the end of March 2017. The accommodation was just right, spacious and comfortable and very well equipped. The location is brilliant, close to Vaison with its restaurants and market and a great base for touring the Rhone vineyards. We ate twice at the restaurant just 100 metres away which was very hospitable and had brilliant lunches in Seguret and Gigondas. We struck lucky with the weather (or maybe it's always like that) and spent a couple of afternoons soaking up the sun in the garden. Really helpful owners. Highly recommended.Guest rating:
We have been to this area multiple times and Viognier is our favorite. The views are incredible, the home was beyond our expectations. If you are considering renting this place Book it NOW! It truly is the most fantastic home to have a memorable vacation. Voignier has made it to #1 on our list. Voignier is incredible and here is why. It is very easily accessed. Just off a main road and across from an awesome excellent local restaurant. The central location of the house makes it very convenient. It is just a short drive, about 3 miles to the nearest village. Even closer for the market & liquor store & dining. AND the house itself is amazing! A very private entrance leads you into a formal living room plus large kitchen/dining room with fireplace that is to die for. The amenities are amazing. if you love to cook and entertain you will be in seventh heaven. An impressive stair case leads to the perfect oversized master bedroom and large master bath with washer and dryer and spacious closets. Everything in the home is upgraded first class and in like new condition. The bedding is superior and star gazing could not be better. 3 good sized bedrooms and 1 bath on the 3rd floor. Great backyard and pool. Owners are terrific.Guest rating:
This was our eleventh stay at DDC, so (obviously) we are satisfied customers. What was different, this trip, was that we were traveling with another couple. We rented the newly offered, large apartment, “Viognier”, which was previously occupied by one of the founding families. As a party of four, we didn’t need all of the room available, but we did appreciate having private quarters on different floors. The kitchen is really the heart of the place, spacious and well equipped, with a large dining table. French doors, opening on the patio, brought in the Provencal sunlight. We all shared cooking and cleaning chores, and, in fact, “dined in” on most nights. The “master suite”, on the first floor (not the ground floor), was equipped with walk-in shower, laundry area, a king-size bed, and a view of the vineyard. On the second floor, there were three ample bedrooms, each with a view of the countryside, sharing a toilet and shower. We were (again) delighted by our accommodations at DDC, and the warm welcome we enjoyed.Guest rating:
We had an amazing time during our retreat to the south of France staying at domaine du crestet. Viognier house exceeded our expectations. One day I wish I could have a kitchen as nice as the one in this home. Marry that with ample space inside (incredible master suite and bath, additional beds/bath on top floor) and out (private terrace garden, outdoor seating/lounging) .... there's nothing left but pure relaxation and enjoyment of the surrounding wine country. Whether you're looking out of the windows from the house or from the village of crestet up the road, every view could be placed on a post card. Thank you so much to the owners for sharing your piece of paradise with us.Guest rating:
