Tourette-Levens is a Perched Village near Nice and has a medieval castle whose origins go back to the 12th Century,
If you take the trouble to walk up to the castle you will be rewarded by a spectacular panorama and beautiful landscapes. During the summer months, the village is famous for its music, ‘Nuits Musicales du Chateau’.
The Musee des Papillons & d’Histoire Naturelle (free admission, open year round, Tuesday to Sunday, 2pm-5.30pm) houses a collection of some 4,500 butterflies and insects from all over the world.
A short distance away there is opportunity to discover trades of the past in another museum Musee des Metiers Traditionnels (free admission, inquire for opening times) featuring reconstructed workshops.
Other sites are the Church of Sainte-Rosalie, with its Baroque altar and a Pieta by Jean Rocca a 17th century painter from Nice and The White Penitents’ Chapel, with its unusual steeple with a triangular section (the only remaining vestige).
